Paul invited to Olympic team
Today in the Herald there is an article. Paul sounds real happy to be participating. Good for him, certainly deserves it.

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Herald:
Quote:
Paul Pierce will be one of the 25 invitees to summer camp with the U.S. men’s basketball team, it was learned last night.
That group will be pared to 15 for the World Championships and 2008 Olympics, with the process remaining fluid throughout the three-year period.
Pierce was aware yesterday he had a letter waiting at home from USA Basketball, and Jerry Colangelo, the managing director for the Senior Men’s Program, acknowledged just before the Celtics tipped off against the Suns that the Boston captain will find good news inside - a contract to join the U.S. squad.
“Really?” Pierce said when informed after the game of the letter’s contents. “That’s great. I just want an opportunity, man. That’s all I asked for. Now it’s up to me.”
According to Colangelo, the mailing is procedural.
“I can’t confirm anything, but I can say he got a contract,” Colangelo said. “Now we have to get a contract back.”

“He’s had a very big year in terms of his numbers and so on and so forth, but I think the more important thing is I don’t think there’s been a question about his ability,” Colangelo said. “You know, it’s a little bit of baggage he carried. But in my conversations with Paul, it’s pretty evident in his mind he’s buried it. And he wants to make sure it’s all behind him so he can go forward. He wants to be a part of this thing. He made it pretty clear.
|
Quote:
Pierce is aware of what’s at stake.
“All I’ve wanted is the opportunity to put the past stuff behind me,” he said. “I’ve always thought it’s an honor to be able to represent your country, and I’m ready to do what I have to do to help us win.”

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Hope he makes the Olympic squad.
To me, competing in the Olympics is the single greatest honor in all of sports. It amazes me that in the past certain NBA players have declined going

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Misleading thread title. Pierce is invited to try-out. You know who else is trying out? Bruce Bowen. Let's hope Pierce makes the team.

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Nice to see. I think Paul unfairly got a lot of blame for the Olympic teams previous performance. I'm glad they are at least considering him.

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Good for Paul, he deserves it....if his attitude stays like it's been all year he will easily make the squad and deservedly so.

World Championships in 2002. I should've said USA team performance.

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Paul has been playing out of his mind, he more than deserves it. He's not only saying "yes" but he has even been pushing to play on the team, which shows us he has the will to help the team succeed.

Re: Paul invited to Olympic team
Not exactly. A good portion of the all-star teams represent other countries and it seems that Colangelo may be looking for some role-players to round out the team (such as Bowen ). All though I'm not a fan of the idea, he understands that the public will not tolerate another '04 Olymics fiasco.
