Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
It was Rivers's decision
Quote:

Although Hall of Famer and current Sacramento Kings assistant Pete Carril does not come to mind when considering ''workout guys" around the league, he is a Rivers favorite. Rivers made a hard recruiting push for Carill when he took the Celtics job. With the end of the Rick Adelman era in Sacramento, Carril may now be available, prompting Rivers to comment, ''Any time you can get a Pete Carril, you have to think about it."

I'd take him on the bench.

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
Princeton-style offense would be great, though Ainge would have to make a lot of moves to make it work.

I would love Carril I brought him up earlier in the season.

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
If they change horses (again) it means another complete roster overhaul and another two years of 25-35 seasons as they find the big men that can run the high post offensive set. Sooner or later they have to stop throwing all these mismatched parts on the court and start assembling a coherent team, they have big men that can only play the low post, a point guard that can't handle and can't feed the post, and reserves that are all over the map. And, unfortunately for Boston, Rivers is no Victor von Frankenstein. Of course, I can see why Ainge and the owners would love the hire (and by extension their mindless followers), it's the ultimate excuse for three years of losing and roster chaos.

Such a great post that we needed it twice. If you had actually read the article or above posts you'd see it's Rivers and not "Ainge and the owners" making the push for Carril. Rivers just fired two assistants. I'd take Carril as an assistant - and that does not require a "complete roster overhaul".

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
Yes, it does. Carril is known for teaching the Princeton offense. If the Celtics are not going to run that, then there is no use in hiring him. Until Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins learn how to pass out of the high post, such as Brad Miller, the Celtics cannot run this offense without a "complete roster overhaul."

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
Personally I don't think that Perks or AJ are too old or set in their ways to learn how to pass out of the high post. And if there's a guy to teach them - Carril is it. But if it truly meant a roster overhaul - count me out. I like this team and want to build on it and add to it - not start over.

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
It's not their game. They are most effective in the low post. By moving them to the high post, you're limiting their natural abilities.

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
Beyond that is the fact that they'd have to learn to shoot from the high post, something that Jefferson does badly and Perkins not at all. The Princeton offense is just a horrible fit for a team relying on Jefferson and Perkins. They need someone like, dare I say, Marcus Banks, to penetrate and feed Big Al the ball. I wish that Boston had someone like that.

[sarcasm]Why would you want Marcus Banks, he sucks.[/sarcasm]
Also, Perk's a pretty good passer from the high post.

Re: Pete Carril a Rivers favorite
Even if in meant moving Perks and Al for better fits to the offense - that's still not a "complete roster change". It's 2 guys. Granted 2 key guys.
