Re: trade paul pierce
PP for a guy who hasn't played barely in 2 years (Armstrong), a guy who's totally overated (Mo Pete) and a young kid who's pretty good but we have tons of those (Villanueva) for a perennial All-Star in his prime (Paul) no sorry charlie. Besides that the Celts are not trading Paul, they are ready to make a run the young guys are maturing finally and if we get a good PG before the season starts look to see us in the playoffs again.

Boy am I tired of this argument, only one team wins the championship each year, so should Phoenix trade Nash, should Lakers trade Kobe, if Dallas loses should they trade Dirk, should Detroit trade Hamilton or Billups, should Memphis trade Pau, why should we trade our best player, and who are you going to get for him?

Doubtful. Chris Paul isn't in this draft, none of the other rookie points will have that sort of impact. There are no impact vet point guards available in free agency, and if there were, they wouldn't take a paycut to play for a rebuilding team in a high tax jurisdiction. Indiana might drop out of the playoff picture, but I suspect that Orlando will be able to pick up the slack.
Beyond that there's the 2008-09 payroll, absent a Raef for Ratliff swap (with Portland), Boston will have to choose between Pierce and the kids, they won't be able to keep them all. If they're committing to the kids, Pierce will be traded next year.

Re: trade paul pierce
No way do we keep Raef over Paul.
No to this trade, it's ludicrous.
Paul is our franchise player.

Re: trade paul pierce
We should seriously consider signing ex-dukie Jay Williams. I hate Duke but if we can somhow get him and then just draft best player available, thatd b sweet.

While I would dearly love to unload Raef, the fact is that NBA teams aren't exactly lining up to trade Boston an expiring contract for an immobile seven footer with bad knees that publicly whines about his role and plays even worse than Antoine Walker in clutch situations (something I didn't think humanly possible). Raef will not really be a desirable quantity till sometime around Christmas of '08. The Celtics are in a similar boat with Szczerbie the Choke Bug. One of those two needs to be off the payroll (and not replaced for contract value) for Boston to keep the rest of the team together without getting walloped with a huge luxury tax bill.

Am I the only one who has a feeling that during that time Raef will be traded for another 60 million, 5 year handicap?
