Ainge had some
very interesting things to say on WEEI last night [courtesty of CelticsBlog forum]. I cannot verify if all of the following is accurate. :
Quote:
"I think that Rondo has a special something...[He] could become a spectacular defender... Marcus Williams is a quarterback...We chose Vince Young over Matt Leinhert."
"Marcus Williams is a guy we seriously considered at 7...Not that teams didn't like him, just some teams had no use for him."
"The trade for Sebastian was "Plan A." Sebastian [is the] same age as other guards in draft, and had he been in draft[,] he would have easily been top PG. No player would slide to us to prevent us from taking Telfair and thinking it was a better deal."
"If Sebastian went to Louisville for two years, Sebastian would of been the top point guard...there was no player that would prevent us from making this deal and prevent us from clearing these contracts."
"We knew that the possibility of Brandon Roy would maybe be there at 7 but the injuries are a concern but because of the need and talent of Telfair, we liked him more"
"We are in the market to get a special player...I will continue to explore this summer, if the price is right, to acquire a veteran player of all star caliber."

"We don't have to win 50 games next year, but we have to see the light. These guys can't just be young forever.
You don't want to make a decision based on the desire to win today."
