Tell that to Billy Walker, who's now looking at the 2009 draft. And if you're asserting that the knee injury won't be serious enough to hurt his draft value, it won't be serious enough to keep him from getting his max contract. And even using your scenario, in the NBA Durant's already got his sneaker contract (as that will be signed about 15 minutes after the draft), whereas in college he doesn't have any of that.

Re: Durant may not enter draft

Don't believe the hype, this happens every year where the top pick or two in the draft always claim they "may not" come out in the draft, I think it is because they get so tired of the same question every day. The only person I perceived to be a top pick that did not come out was Noah, but despite the smoke being blown, I guarantee that Oden and Durant will declare for the draft, if they didn't have to go to college for that one year they would already be in the NBA. Neither one of them is going to spend any more time in college, let me see spend all day in classes or be a millionaire. Like Eh said it is just not basketball money it is endorsements and every thing else that goes with it basically Durant and Oden are going to be in the 25 to 50 million dollar range right away with endorsements and what not, being able to be your own enteprise, like Lebron, when you have that opportunity 99% of the time your going to be anxious to start all of that, why would you want to sit around a college campus for another year. Doesn't make any sense.

Re: Durant may not enter draft

WHat if his play falls of? What if he dissapoints next season? He's hot right now, passing up millions is VERY hard to do.

He's entering the draft.

Just for the record, I would be shocked if Durant didn't enter the draft. I would be less shocked if Oden didn't.

Re: Durant may not enter draft

Perhaps because Oden is recovering from an injury as well as his seeming commitment to a national championship at the college level.

For all the people telling them how "stupid" they are if they don't do it now, they may be filtering this through a different lens.
They might actually value a college education.

Not saying this will happen, but I'm kind of getting a kick out of considering the horror of the league recruiters if they BOTH decide not to declare yet....Then who is your #1?

Re: Durant may not enter draft

Given their class schedules they aren't in college for the education. But perhaps if Boston & Memphis end up 1/2 they might reconsider remaining in the draft (but only because Boston sucks and no one knows where the hell Memphis will be playing next year). It would be Boston's luck to win the draft lottery under those circumstances.

Re: Durant may not enter draft

I think Durant will enter, Oden I'm not so sure. The kid loves school he likes learning. I mean Tim Duncan did it so it's not like no one stays but it's unlikely, it's big money. I hope they both come out so we have a better shot at one of them.

Re: Durant may not enter draft

Even if you love college, I don't see why you'd stay if you know you're going into the NBA. You make your millions, retire, and then go to college to learn for the fun of it. Or do like Vince Carter and get your degree while you're playing. Learning doesn't have to stop just because you play basketball. Sure, you may miss out on the "college experience", but I think you'll get plenty of drinking and partying experience in the NBA.
