Peter May: Let's go after Hill
Quote:
By Peter May | April 1, 2007
I don't know if he'd come here. I don't know if he's even going to play next year. But if I'm Danny Ainge, the one veteran free agent I'd go after this summer is Grant Hill.
It might require the Celtics actually using their full mid-level exception. It might require a sign-and-trade if Hill figures he's worth more, although he turns 35 in October. But can you imagine a better veteran presence for the Celtics than the classy Hill?
"Just the leadership he brings, especially to a young team, is huge," said his coach with the Orlando Magic, Brian Hill. "He leads by example with his effort in the game, with his effort at practice, and by the way he handles himself on and off the court. He's simply the consummate professional, a great mentor for these younger players."

I hope this is a April's fool joke.

Because one oft-injured small forward is not enough.

I would take him if Hill didn't value himself too highly. These kids need some guidance and leadership and Paul has clearly shown he isn't the one to give it to them.

Re: Peter May: Let's go after Hill
It's an interesting idea. I really respect Peter May and he makes a good arguement, but I don't think it's a good idea to take on a player that still only plays like 2/3 of the season even when "healthy".

Re: Peter May: Let's go after Hill
I don't think Pierce is the leader that Hill is. Pierce is more of a second banana than a top dog. At least that's the impression I get get.
If Hill will go to Boston for the minimum, it's a great deal. He'll probably go somewhere for a championship, though.

IF Grant plays next season, it will be for the Magic (he's a loyal guy) or a championship....it won't be for Boston.

How do you know that he is loyal? Do Pistons fans think he's loyal?

Loyal? Yeah he played his tail off his final season here and we all saw the writing on the wall.
He said he wouldn't mind coming back to Detroit now, and you better believe we could find a few minutes for him off the bench. We also have the best training staff in Basketball, which is something GHill knows.
Boston wouldn't hurt from adding an experienced vet but a guy like Hill isn't it. If he gets hurt then what?

No, no. Danny's an egalitarian. He'll sign/trade for chronically injured players of all races.
