Re: Oden out for 07/08 season

The team was ****ty. Its not like Russell's Celtics finished with the worst record in the league. The team we had last year sucked, and they sucked hard. Perhaps they were a bit better than their record showed, but the tank wasn't as bad as it is made out to be. We had a **** team and they played like it.

Re: Oden out for 07/08 season

Does not take away from the FACT that we clearly tanked. It was not a secret.

Re: Oden out for 07/08 season

I'm pretty sure paul pierces head would have exploded going from the joy of getting oden, to finding out he was injured for the season.

(obviously if he didnt know allen and KG were possible)

You mean that they could have been a 6-29 team if they'd really tried? The team busted balls on the court, but they were so awful that on January ****ing 24th last year the Atnalta ****ing Skwah toyed with the greatest young team in NBA history. When Atnalta is treating you like a jailhouse *****, you're pretty much historically awful. And the Celtics most certainly busted balls on the court, Perkins had arguably his best game as a Celtic and the rest of the kids kept battling down to the final seconds. But they just weren't good enough to hang with an NBA power like the Hawks.

Then why doesn't it look bad that Houston passed on him. Portland was fined that year for tampering with Patrick Ewing as well. 250k which was a lot of money back in 1984. Portland was hell bent on getting a center. Would it have looked bad if they landed Ewing instead? Had Sam stayed healthy he would have been one of the top centers in the league. Nothing like Jordan, but Hakeem and Ewing were nothing like Jordan either.

Re: Oden out for 07/08 season

With all due respect, Hakeem was the most dominant center of his era. Hakeem over Jordan could be justified. Ewing or Bowie couldn't. Of course, Portland's blunder has to be a salve on the egos of Houston's management not because they chose Olajuwon, but because when Chicago offered them Jordan and a first round pick for Ralph Sampson (on draft night) they said no. Had they dealt Ralph Tin Tin for Jordan and and Chicago's 1985 first round pick (Chicago chose 11th with Karl Malone and Joe Dumars still on the board) the Rockets would probably have been the closest thing to the Russell-era Celtics the NBA had ever seen.

I think that was the thinking the Blazers had with Clyde already in the fold. Then again had the Rockets chosen Drexler instead of Rodney McRay then Houston would have been dominant for a long time as well.
