Tony Allen to be Backup Point Guard, Celtics Fans Shudder in Anticipation
Per Doc. I hope that Danny plugs this hole before January, going into the postseason with Allen and Rondo at the one is going to cause Boston a lot of matchup problems.

Danny should have spent the preseason trying to get Head. (Like all red blooded American men. )

Re: Tony Allen to be Backup Point Guard, Celtics Fans Shudder in Anticipation
While I would definitely like another PG to backup Rondo (or make Rondo a backup), I don't think it would be disastrous if we didn't get one. Having seen how this team plays, the offense runs pretty smoothly through the non-PGs. I don't think they'll have any trouble bringing up the floor with Rondo, Allen, or even Pierce. The offense will often run through Garnett, Pierce, or Allen anyway. They each will rack up major assists this season. What they need is another shooter on the floor, and House fits that bill. Tony Allen doesn't seem to have his stroke going yet, but he's more capable than Rondo. If Rondo develops a shot and the confidence to take it, then we'll be even better off. One thing that kind of makes up for his lack of shot is his ability to drive past his defender and finish under the basket. He did that several times against the Cavs. Instead of taking the jumpshot, he went in for the layup. It's still two points. Obviously, he can't do that all the time because defenses will be waiting for him, but it's better than nothing and will keep defenses on their toes. But at that point, someone will be out of position and one of our guys will be open that Rondo can find.

The worry is that he's always been something of a cementhead with tunnel vision. I can't imagine that playing for a new contract will ameliorate those tendencies.

Too bad we couldn't trick Seattle into taking Telfair (or keeping fat *** or something) so we could keep d-west
You know the rules. No masking.

Re: Tony Allen to be Backup Point Guard, Celtics Fans Shudder in Anticipation
I'm still in Rondo's corner. I think some of the criticism of him is a little overblown. He was a rookie, playing with an injury riddled team that pretty much tanked on purpose at the end. I personally don't think one year under those conditions is enough to conclude he "doesn't have a shot". I'd say that's what coaching is for, but.......doc's still here.
I realize we need to expect a lot from him since we're starting him, but I believe he'll rise to the occasion. We don't need him to be Kobe, just a good floor general. He can do that. Allen???? Like HB says, does Tony like to pass??

Delonte is a restricted free agent next summer because the Sonics didn't extend him. We can always sign him next year or trade a 2nd rounder to the Sonics and get him back this year so they can get something back for him instead of letting him just leave next year (if they choose to not match the offer sheet).

Re: Tony Allen to be Backup Point Guard, Celtics Fans Shudder in Anticipation
Delonte looked good last night, even though they lost. I think he'd fit in well with this incarnation of the Celtics. He can be a little wild with the ball, but I think if he was playing with veterans instead of young guys, he could keep his turnovers down. I always liked Delonte, but last year's team wasn't a good fit for him (or for anyone for that matter).
