Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
Chris Paul
Deron Williams
Juan Calderon
Tony Parker
Gilbert Arenas
There's five 26 or younger. That's without addressing guys that are similarly inexperienced (Felton, Farmar & Conley). On top of that we have Bayless, Rose and Mayo entering the NBA next year, and possibly D.J. Augustin, Ty Lawson, Darren Collison and Jamont Gordon with them. There is about a zero percent chance that Rondo becomes a top 5 point guard anywhere except the imaginations of fans.

Reason: I meant "Farmar"

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
I absolutely love Rondo's game, but I can't see top five. Ten? That's more possible. But he's just not as extraordinarily talented as the rest.
Also, people don't recognize points on defense, so he's always going to be underrated.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
Rondo is probably one of the only players i like on the celtics
i'd like to hear these names of the guys 25 & under that are better then raging rondo.
Chris Paul
Deron Williams
? who else
Monta Ellis? SG?
Roy? SG?
Felton?
TJ Ford?
Nelson?
Calderon?
i think rajon is creative enough to get it done on any team in the league, he will only improve with more push.

So you've reduced the age limit to eliminate all the better 26 year olds?

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
I'm a dyed in the wool Rondo fan with no apologies.
The kid is probably going to be under rated for the next couple of years.
He has improved so much this year and has really developed as a point guard.
I don't expect tremendous scoring from him yet because the big three are there for that! I believe he's doing exactly the job he's supposed to do.
I have no trouble believing he'll develop into a top 5 PG.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
probably not top 5, just because there is some real star power at the point these days... but top 10 absolutely, and should develop into a great player

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
Lets think about this for a second.
If the salary cap was not real and age was irrelivent, I would trade Rondo straight up for any of these guys:
Gilbert Arenas - 26
Mike Bibby - 30
Chauncey Billups - 32
Jose Calderon - 27
Baron Davis - 29
Devin Harris - 25
Jason Kidd - 35
Andre Miller - 32
Steve Nash - 34
Jameer Nelson - 26
Tony Parker - 25
Chris Paul - 22
Jason Terry - 30
Jamaal Tinsley - 30
Deron Williams - 23
Mo Williams - 25
So he's about the 16th best point guard in the NBA right now in my opinion. Which 11 there will he jump over in the next three years? If I were to project retirees, Billups, Kidd, Miller, and Nash would be out as all will be 35 or older by then, though I don't see any of those four retiring that soon, barring serious injury. That leaves seven. I could see Rondo becomming better than Tinsley which leaves six. He could become better than Bibby in three years, but that would require some decline from Bibby, which is likely with his injury history. That leaves five.
We also need to consider Mike Conley Jr., who has a higher ceiling than Rondo. There's also Derrick Rose and Jerryd Bayless in college, among others who could be better than Rondo within three years in the NBA.
I'm a Rondo fan and I think he is a good fit at point guard for this team, paritcularly with his off-season development. However, there's simply no way he'll become a top 5 point guard in the league. He'll be a decent second tier point at best.

Tony Parker's still the same age as Devin Harris? Wow... sometimes I forget he's still so young, esp. since his hot wife's like 8 years older
Of that list, I would NOT trade straight up for Mo Williams amd Tinsley. Jameer Nelson and Devin Harris are questionable. Rondo could very well develop into a special player, but he's still got a lot of growing to do.

No, not until September. He's still 26 this year.
