Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
While reading a thread about the top PGs in the league, I really began to believe Rajon Rondo will be a top PG in this league soon. I don't know if he'll be compared to Paul or Williams, but he looks better than any other young PG in the league.
He has a great ceiling, first of all. He's got top notch speed/quickness, and his great strength and length allows him to play a lot bigger. Besides for the athletic ability, he's got great intelligence, confidence and work ethic. As for skills, he does everything well- scoring, rebounding, passing, and defending. Just imagine the tremendous all-around game he'll have once he polishes and perfects every part of it. He's averaging 11, 4, 5 and 2 steals in his 2nd season, in 31 minutes, on the best team in the league. And he's only 22 years old. And at 22 years old and playing with 3 veteran All-Stars, he's one of the most vocal guys out there. With the competitive situation that we're in, he shows great poise and headiness. He doesn't automatically defer to the Big 3, he just makes the right basketball play, which is often taking it straight to the hole for 2. I just think he'll be special. His courage allows him to make big plays, like when he took it for himself against Detroit for the jam over Maxiell, or when he schooled Chauncey in the waning minutes of the game. He comes up big with whatever the team needs, like when he got 12 boards against Dallas when we were missing KG. The only thing holding him back is his shot, which can always be improved. Tons of players come in the league needing to improve their shot. Rondo's shooting will get better. He may have a funky form, but he shows confidence in it and there are tons of players with ugly form but make it a lot. Even if his form prevents him from shooting well, he can always fix it. The way he improves every game shows that he's capable of fixing a flaw of his.

I agree in time he will be a top 5 PG in the league, he is still rough around the edges but he is very young.

Is someone counting on the deaths of a lot of young point guards?

Spree is going on a top-5 point guard killing "spree" this off season. As Rondo is a boarderline starter and nothing more right now, hes got a great shot at cracking it once Latrell is done.
The season after that? Look out shooting guards, Latrell has his eye on you next.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
he doesn't have the court vision that is required for someone who's a top 5 PG. You can be a better shooter, you can even limit your turnovers, but court vision is usually not something that guys learn over the years.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
I always like Rondo since his days in Kentucky. He reminds me a lot of two past time defensive PGs, Maurice Cheeks and Mookie Blaylock. Both were All-Stars (Cheeks 4, Mookie 1). I think that's the kind of potential he has. Not bad. Actually I miss those type of PGs. I really hope Rondo can reach their level or even surpass them.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
when ur playings with 3 all-stars, everything becomes easier, but his weak stats dont show that. In 3-4 years once allen, KG, and pierce retire, rondo will be lost.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
I don't think Rondo will be top 5, but I do think he'll be better than people think he will. He's already proven lots of naysayers wrong that he would be a hindrance to this team. I do disagree that he doesn't have court vision. More often than not, he makes the right play. You can really tell how he helps the offense when he's off the floor. It just doesn't run as smoothly. I think he fits into this team perfectly. He does what he has to. The team is winning, and that's the most important part. It's just his second year and with Cassell's help, I think he can only get better.

Re: Rondo will be a top 5 PG in a few years
He is an extremely raw piece of meat. He still has alot of room for improvement but he should do nothing but improve as the years go by and hopefully he'll be able to do alot more for the team by the time the big 3 are gone.
