It seems that even though we've won eight straight including a somewhat easy win over Detroit that people still aren't jumping off their bandwagon. What exactly is it about them that makes them the toughest team to beat in the East? Experience? I've never really been a big believer in experience. I mean, they lost to the Cavs and the Heat, two inexperienced teams with worse records than them. Who's to say they won't lose to an inexperienced team with a BETTER record? The fact is, playoff experience isn't all that helpful. It's just basketball, anything can happen.
Re: Is Detroit really 'the team to beat' in the East?
Experience matters. Realize that all the Championships are won by teams mainly made of veterans. Spurs, Kobe-Shaq Lakers, Detroit and Jordan Bulls.
But the way the Celtics are, with KG, Pierce, Ray with vets like Posey and Cassell, I'd say they'd be pretty good.
Detroit are still the team to beat because they are the team that has proven to be successful in the Playoffs and they are still near the top. You look at the other teams in the East, there's Toronto and Orlando with a first round exit. Last year's ECF Champs, you know how crap they are. Detroit is the team to beat. Spurs are the team to beat in the West.
They have PROVEN something.
For all you know the Celtics Big 3 could like choke in the regular season. That's why Dallas wasn't the team to beat last season. It's still San Antonio.
Re: Is Detroit really 'the team to beat' in the East?
I think we'll be good. KG took his team to the WCF by himself, Ray took his team to the himself, and now with addition of Cassell who has championship experience and playing experience with KG and Ray...there's no reason to believe we'll fall come playoff team
Re: Is Detroit really 'the team to beat' in the East?
Who really cares who the team to beat is? Boston will likely be the number one seed, and some people will value the playoff experience of the Pistons. The teams will decide it on the court.
Re: Is Detroit really 'the team to beat' in the East?
No you guys are still the team to beat. Detroit has tanked in the Conference Finals the past couple of years and I haven't seen a whole lot that leads me to believe differently.
Re: Is Detroit really 'the team to beat' in the East?
I just hope we don't lose to the Cavs before we even get to the Pistons. Lebron is always a concern and Z is a tough matchup. If we lose to whoever the 8th seed is, I will be seriously disappointed.

Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Posey, House, Cassell, and Brown aren't veterans?
Detroit is not the team to beat because they are the team that has choked twice in the ECF the last two years.
The Celtics have proven that they are the best defensive team in the league and have the best chance at a ring. Look at the record and look at how good they are.
The reason Dallas choked is because they had no leader and they are too soft. Dirk is soft. Garnett and Pierce, the leaders of this team, are nowhere near soft.

I agree that the Pistons aren't the team to beat but how many combined NBA finals games has your big 3 played? Experience matters, and that is why even if you do win the Eastern Conference you will lose to the Lakers or Spurs. Dallas choked because they are terrible on defense and because Wade played out of his mind. Dirk was far from the reason Dallas lost that series.

You know, the year your Pistons won the championship, nobody on that roster had played in a Finals series.
And the Dallas choke job I'm referring to is last year's.
And yes, experience matters, but at the end of the day, the championship hinges on who plays better basketball. And the Celtics play better basketball than the Spurs and Lakers.
