Doc really needs to...
give Sam Cassell and P.J. Brown some burn.
We only have 18 games left and these guys are still riding the pine, even in hardly competitive games. These guys are the missing pieces to our team and fill our only weaknesses. Cassell fills the need for a big PG off the bench who can bring the ball up the court without losing it and can also intiate the offense. Brown is a tall, lengthy rebounder and defender who can play both spots. Both have a ton of playoff experience. These guys will come up big in the playoffs if they get settled in. They could help right now also. Cassell could do a lot better than House right now initiating the offense. Brown could help with our recent rebounding struggles and could've helped us not get murdered in the paint by Utah.
We need to get the chemistry going with these guys in the rotation, before its too late and we're trying to figure things out in the playoffs.

Re: Doc really needs to...
I assume you mean big in the metaphorical sense...Cassell is 6'3"...generously. Rondo has a 6'10" wingspan.

its not that easy, man...
how is cassel supposed to initiate an offense that he has had 6 days to learn??? the players we have now are all comfortable in their roles and know what they are doing on the court...it is up to cassell and brown to prove in practice that they can get on the floor and not disrupt what is going on...we are winning game after game without them so its not like we are in dire need of either of them...they are just here for insurance...i dont care if they dont play a minute til the playoffs if they have to take that much time to learn how to play on this team as a positive factor rather than a disruption

I think it'll be fine, last 10 games or so they will probably play really extended minutes and be ready to go for the playoffs, no point rushing things

Basically, this whole team learned to play together in very little time, so it's not impossible. When you have a group of veterans, I think it's very easy to integrate players. Cassell and PJ won't be lost for long. However, I don't want their first major playing minutes to come in the playoffs. That's a bit unfair to them to put that much pressure on them at once.

I totally agree. I just don't want them to be thrown into a playoff series unadjusted because Doc wouldn't put them in in regular season games.

Re: Doc really needs to...
I think playing Cassell too many minutes before the playoffs would be foolish, because he's had some injury troubles this year, but I'd love to see PJ get some significant time here soon, but only to physically ready himself. As for pressure, these guys have been around for long enough that it won't get to them.

Re: Doc really needs to...
FWIW, NBA teams in March rarely, if ever, practice. The schedule tightens up and unless there is around three days between games, teams would just prefer to rest, especially if they are playoff-bound.

I mean the pressure of knowing the offensive and defensive sets without having had any playing time before the playoffs. I don't think they'll have any problem with their individual play, but the Celtics play as a team, so I'd want them to get used to it. I actually think Cassell should have a decent number of minutes before the playoffs, since he is the point guard and will have the job of running the offense. Knowing players' tendencies and where they like to get the ball will help with timing and efficiency. For any other position, limited minutes would be a good option.
