Playoff rotations?

So with a bunch of largely meaningless games to go, what do you guys think about possible minutes during playoffs?

Most teams, good or bad, cut it down to around 8 players getting most of the minutes and the rest of the players coming in only in case of foul trouble or garbage time.

The starting 5 are set - Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG and Perk. I think it's really important to have a consistent rotation and not these substitute the whole bench one by one things.

The 3 guys should be playing around 38-40 minutes easily. Rondo and house should cover PG spot almost completely. Cassell should come in only in case of foul trouble or for short stretches when we are struggling to score.

I foresee Perk getting into foul trouble easily and his minutes are going to be about the same as now (20-25 mins) and I prefer Powe to Baby for filling in those minutes. Here again PJ is only for foul trouble and specific scenarios like guarding Z maybe.

I want 2 of 3 always on court (less garbage time hopefully). They should be well rested these next bunch of games. Can't wait for the playoffs to start
My biggest fears are Doc's rotations and Tony losing his mind at times

Dont necissarily agrtee with the bolded, but good job bringing this up as its the next important thing we have to think about.

I think the rotation is really going to depend on the opponent, but Cassel is far more then a garbage time player, against team who press us full court House is going to struggle and really cant be put at the point..
i could see Sam getting 20 or so minutes in the big games, Detroit/Western team in the finals

Brown will get decent minutes against any team with a true center... The magic especially because he will help against dwight on the boards, also against Z if we meet the Cavs. PJ could be playing 15 or so minutes in those games, but otherwise will probably be a 5-7 minute guy.

I really hope we can get some big wins in the first round to allow the bench to get some playoff minutes, and get the big 3 some rest which they will need later on.

ill come up with minutes and what not at some other time

The problem I have with Cassell is that his role when he's on the floor is not properly defined yet, and he has played very little with our starting unit. House, though he struggles a bit against full court press, has a very set role. If Cassell is going to get decent minutes in the playoffs, doc should be playing him along with our starting unit more in the next few games

Re: Playoff rotations?

Which is something i hope to see, i wouldnt mind seeing cassel playing extended minutes in the next few games to get him more in sinc with the rest of his team.

He will come up huge in the playoffs, i have seen it time and time again he delivers when it counts.

Re: Playoff rotations?

If it's primarily an 8 man rotation, I see Posey, Powe, and House getting the majority of the bench minutes, since they been major contributors the whole season. Cassell will probably get a decent amount of playing time but not as much as those three. Brown and Davis will likely play when the opponent has size in the front court and Perk and KG are on the bench. It will all depend on matchups. Unless Tony picks up his game, I don't see him playing much except for defensive purposes.

I do think Rondo should be on the floor almost always. The offense just seems to stagnate when he's off the floor more than any other player. He's still young, so I think he can handle the minutes.

Re: Playoff rotations?

I think doc will play tony a fair bit, he may be a good match up against Billups at least.
Posey needs to be the first man off the bench, he has great big game experience and will help us a whole lot... Powe will be the first big off the bench.

i think Cassell will get more time then house though, With the added defensive rpessure the playoffs bring im not sure how eddie will go handling the ball and running the point.. where as cassell will be safe as a house

Re: Playoff rotations?

I don't see Tony getting too many minutes, because I'm sure doc will be planning to give the big 3 a vast majority of the playing. I also think House's minutes will drop but Cassel's may likely increase simply due to his experience and ability to deal with pressure. As for big baby, maybe he'll only play garbage minutes aside from close games against Detroit

Re: Playoff rotations?

Yeah baby probabaly wont play much... but thats not taking anything away from him, the rotation just gets shortened.
He will be brought in for garbage time, and maybe some extra strength if we get duncan or shaq in the finals.
