Gabe Pruitt
Do people think Pruitt will get playing time next year with this team or do you think he'll mostly sit on the bench or go to the D league or get traded? I'm hoping he'll get some time in the summer leagues and then hopefully be a contributor next year. Cassell is ok if you need some scoring, but he's not able to run the team like Rondo can. Pruitt will need to learn how to do that, but he may be more suited because he's not set in his ways yet. Who knows if they'll be bringing back Cassell anyway. With Doc, it's like a catch 22. You don't get playing time if you're not experienced, but you don't get experience if you don't get playing time. Davis got time because he was a needed big body with the injuries to our big men. It's good that we had a crappy season last year. Otherwise, who knows if Rondo would've gotten a chance.

Is there any particular reason that you're dissing Sam right after he saved our bacon in game 2? Rondo didn't get playing time early last year because he was clueless about NBA basketball. At UK he'd lost the point guard job his sophomore year and was in way over his head when he arrived here. He's played this year because he's shown a capacity to play NBA calibre ball.
As for Cassell, he's already indicated that he's coming back for one more year, and after that he'll probably join the coaching staff. Pruitt won't be playing in the summer league because the Celtics won't be fielding a team. However, as he has two years left on his deal and House's is up at the end of this year, Pruitt's likely to be the one back, and likely taking Eddie House's job. And probably spend the year glued to Sam's hip so that he can learn how to play the point guard spot in the NBA.

Re: Gabe Pruitt
Sam is fine for what he brings (by the way, I created the thread before game 2). He's just not the future of the franchise. He's a scoring point guard (he took more shots than anyone except Pierce in game 2). That can be good and was definitely needed during our scoring droughts in the playoffs, but with the big three, I think we need more of a distributor who can knock down the occasional open shot. I think Pruitt could do that in the backup role. Obviously, we haven't seen enough of him to form a solid opinion, but all I'm wondering is if he'll get a chance to show what he can do. He doesn't even seem to be able to get much playing time in garbage time.
Is it official that Sam is coming back? I know Sam wants to come back, but I didn't think the Celtics made any decision on that yet.
I disagree that Rondo was clueless at the beginning of the year last year. As I recall, he played pretty well when he got time (so did Powe). But Doc inexplicably changed his playing time a lot. It's not like that accomplished anything because the Celtics lost most of their games anyway. This year, I understand why Pruitt didn't get a lot of playing time, since we actually had something to play for, and it wasn't the time for developing players. However, there were a lot of times when the game was well out of reach, but Doc kept the starters in. Pruitt could've played then.

Because he wasn't ready to play the point in the NBA. He needed development time i Utah.

You might disagree, but the coaching staff and front office didn't. He didn't play well at the beginning of last year so they worked him in practise until he was ready.

Re: Gabe Pruitt
Sam will come back, he's willing to take the low money, and we wont find anyone else better just using exceptions and minimum contracts, we can now use that money for a back up Center
