Offseason task 2: Center
Here is one of the more difficult ones:
Perkins did great last season, his defense was great and towards the end of the season his offense even started to get some rythm to it. Obviously will be back, and will be our starter
PJ did a great job, and looks likely to retire.... Unless we picked up a Zo/Deke type player i would always keep a spot for him if he wants to join mid season.
Pollard is what he is.... a big body, a good lockerroom and team guy, an emergency 5 in case of foul trouble or being undersized, i cant see him staying unless we simply have a spare roster spot
So.. players to look at? who to keep/resign?

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
Meanwhile 'the Birdman' Chris Andersen looks to be a likely candidate:
Quote:
Free agent center Chris Andersen and his agent, Steve Heumann, arrived in Boston yesterday, had dinner with Ainge, and will meet with Ainge and his staff today. The Hornets are also interested in retaining Andersen. Free agents can begin signing contracts Tuesday.
The Celtics have had an interest in Andersen since he was reinstated by the NBA March 4 after serving a two-year ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The athletic, 6-foot-11-inch, 228-pounder returned to the Hornets and played in five games. Andersen, who has also played for the Nuggets, has averaged 5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks over his six-year career.
"He's a guy we've always wanted," Ainge said. "We just want to sit down and talk to Chris and see where he is at with his desire to play in Boston and to see if we think he is a fit."

Wouldnt mind picking him up at all for some energy/blocks etc off the bench

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
Anderson is a good fit. KG and Perk were our only shot blockers last season. If you look at our team's BPG, it was less than the other team's, and we had a low BPG in comparison to the rest of the league. Regardless, we were still an incredible defensive team and getting a shot-blocker isn't a must, but it would definitely help our D even more and give us another dimension. So he would contribute a lot with his shot-blocking. His athleticism would also give another another dimension to the team, plus it would allow us to keep up and match up with the more athletic teams that we had trouble with. In addition to all those things, he can catch and finish, unlike Perk. With all the great passers on the team, like Rondo, Pierce, Garnett, and Allen, he would get in position to throw it down all the time. He's a solid addition if he stays out of trouble.

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
I agree.. while hes not great on either side of the ball hes energetic and when hes going he can be all over the court, great for weak side help/blocks and would definately get some garbage buckets much like powe and davis do, but chris would finish above the rim

Pollard is a medical study. He hasn't played any significant ball in years and isn't likely to again. He's done here. For now it's likely to be the Birdman, and they're likely to hold a roster spot open for PJ.

His dunk contest wasn't memorable because of his dunks,it was because of his number of tries to complete a dunk..lol
anyway, birdman is a good fit imo.He can still play decently, much more "dominating" than Pollard ever was with the team.

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
I think Pollard and Birdman should both be on the roster. Pollard never got too much of a chance to show us if he could do anything. He'll never be an all-star, but he could get 5 mpg and give Andersen 10-15 mpg. KP picks up the remaining 28-33.

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
I think we should convince PJ to go another half a season... Use Andersen as the only true back up center and let Powe/Davis take the other minutes for the first part of the season.
Bring the old guy back in for one more run

Re: Offseason task 2: Center
Now that Obryant signed as the third stringer....
some UFA options:
Brian Skinner, Chris Andersen, Kwame Brown, Francisco Elson, Theo Ratliff, jamaal Magliore, Jake Voshkul
players I like: BRian Skinner, Chris Andersen, Kwame Brown, Theo Ratliff, Jake Voshkul.
players I dont like: Jamaal Magloire, Francisco Elson
Theo Ratliff might retire?
I wanna see Brian Skinner in a celtics uni, but hes a little undersized. Chris Andersen is ok but not a true centre, I wanna see Kwame Brown or Jake Voshkuk, both are scrubs..but they would be fine for 10-15 mins a game.

Kwame Brown would be a nice addition if he could be had for cheap.
