They re-signed House and Allen.
Seeking continuity for his NBA champs, GM Danny Ainge re-signed free agents Eddie House and Tony Allen to new contracts. The top reserves figure to play a key role again for Boston. Allen, in particular, will be counted on to help replace James Posey, who departed via free agency (see below).
The Big Three got some rest.
Unlike many top clubs, the Celtics did not have to worry about their main stars playing in Olympic competition this summer. Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen got a chance to rest their aging legs. After such an extended playoff run, they surely needed it.
Thibodeau didn't flee-bodeau.
Last spring it seemed all but certain assistant coach Tom Thibodeau, the architect of Boston's top-ranked defense, would be hired as an NBA head coach somewhere. Now it looks as if he will be back for at least one more campaign. Although still not technically signed for next year, Thibodeau is expected to get a new deal shortly, along with the rest of Doc Rivers' staff.
What went wrong:
Posey no longer in their pockets.
Posey, the veteran forward who hit some big three-pointers and played such a key defensive role opposite Kobe Bryant in last year's Finals, signed with the Hornets. The Celtics hope Tony Allen can fill the void, but that remains to be seen. Allen is coming off a knee injury, and lacks Posey's size and experience.
While there wasnt any big names joining the team, im happy with how things have gone, and think the team is well equipped to go for banner 18, we have much more athleticism on our bench, and young guys who can help the big 3 rest during the season.
Seeing Posey go was hard, but picking up obryant, giddens, walker, miles gives the team a new look and should be fun to watch this season
Ainge did a great job of loading the bench with athletes. Those athletes- Giddens, Walker, and O'Bryant don't even have to play all that great, as long as they're athletes that allow us to play a different style and match up with more athletic teams for stretches of the game. Along with being great athletes, those guys all have a ton of potential. We only need one of them or Tony Allen to have a great season and we're a good deal better than we were last season.
Danny Ainge did a great job with the draft, but his free agent signings were mediocre. We could've had Lue, Barnes, Anderson, and Tony Allen instead of House, Miles, O'Bryant, and Tony Allen. But even with the mediocre free agent signings, we still improved a lot.

yeah i think missing out on barnes was a big oversight from ainge, he could have been a steal and given us some more outside shooting from the bench, which we are now slightly lacking without Posey
i think the athletic guys will help us overcome teams like Atlanta much easier, i cant see us being troubled early in the playoffs again, however we are no better suited to beat the better teams in the conference and finals then we were last season. that being said, we were obviously pretty well equipped
They signed Darius Miles. Automatic F minus minus.

F minus minus... for the whole offseason? If Darius doesn't pan out we can just get rid of him no questions asked. No risk there at all.
The only reason Miles ever made the league was his athleticism, which is now gone. And, in the unlikely event he actually makes the team, we've added a coach-killing, morale-plummeting, pot-smoking, malingering, complaining, first class **** up who can't shoot and won't play D. The worst case scenario here isn't what you guys seem to think it is, which is him getting cut. The worst case is Miles making the team. No team with Darius Miles on it will ever win an NBA championship. Quote me on that. Put it on everything. Obviously I was exaggerating when I said Miles made the offseason a complete failure, but even giving this guy a chance is insane. No idea what DA was/is thinking.

i see why they did it, will it work? i have no idea, but i dont see the big risk at all
The risk is if Miles makes the team, because of the reasons I mentioned in my previous post. No contending team should ever want any part of a personality like Darius Miles, unless he's an All-NBA first teamer, which he clearly is not.
