The New Orlean Hornets are clearly regretting giving him that big contract, and THe Boston Celtics clearly miss Posey's services.
If they give Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen, they can get him, and I think if Danny Ainge plays it right, he can get a New Orleans draft pick
(maybe the giddens for first rounder)
I understand that James Posey's contract is too long, However! I dont necessarily think its a bad thing, his expiring contract will just be another trade chip when they are reloading their team, and sometimes its good to have a big expiring contract even if they are not earning it. Heck the big 3 wouldnt have existed if it wasnt for someone giving Theo Ratliff a contract that was too big and too long.
It is possible, and that's precisely the package that the C's would offer should they want to pursue it, but I don't think it makes sense. He's on the books for three more years at more than he's worth and the C's were one of the teams to take a loan from the league to help with expenses this year. If we're going to make a big financial commitment to a player they need to be earning the money. Rondo and Ray Allen are both up for new contracts after next year, and it would be foolish to put our ability to extend their deals in jeopardy to overpay a rotation player.
It would probably have to be Scalabrine, Tony Allen and Boston's 2009 First Round Pick for Posey.
If I'm Boston, I do that trade any day of the week.

Nah, the celtics would be bailing the hornets out of the mistake that they made. New Orleans would be the one that would have to convince Danny Ainge to do it. A more likely trade would be :
It won't happen IMO. He' will be in New Orleans for the next few years at least. Plus the Hornets already showed their cards regarding players they want to trade. Pose wasn't one of them.

The Celtics were willing to pay Posey the annual amount that the Hornets ended up paying him except Posey wanted an extra year. So truthfully it doesnt really hurt the Celtics much until the last year of Posey's contract where I'm assuming he will have regressed to a point where he wont be worth 7 mill. a year.
However I don't think its as bad as people think it is, having an expiring will be a pretty good trade chip and allow the celts to match salaries in case anyone wants to trade with the celts, and seeing as how the celts will be over the cap anyways with an extended Ray Allen and Rondo, even if he wont be able to play out his contract at least his expiring contract will give the celts a little more flexibility. Think about it..Without Theor Ratliff, the celts would never have been able to match the salaries in order to acquire KG from the wolves. So overpaid contracts are not always a bad thing. To a lesser extent, Brian Scalabrine's bad contract gives the celts to trade for some help this year. Just something to keep in mind.

Well, I think after this season, they realized that with the decline of Peja and Tyson, they are not really contenders. Whats the point of having a super glue guy that is a key when they are far from a championship. I think giving them those expiring contracts is a good thing for them because it allows them to re allocate poseys salary into 2 or 3 players next season and give them some depth. 6.5 million is alot to give to one player espcially when hes just a bench player. Posey's salary doesn't really effect Boston's situation much but when you are the penny pinching Hornets, its a pretty big deal. I doubt the hornets even use their MLE to address their depth issues, they are going to have to find a creative way to solve their depth issues without increasing their salaries.
The front office didnt want to pay him for that long, thats why he went to the hornets... they arent going to pick him up after what would have been the best season he was going to have on the 4 year deal
the thing that really annoys me though? if they manage to get an expiring for him, it just shows we could have paid him what he wanted, used him for 2 years then done exactly the same thing!
