***highlighted matchups for thursday, january 6th***

ARIZONA AT CALIFORNIA. The Pac Ten is shaping up to be a very interesting conference. Arizona looked very good against Arizona State in their last game, and appear to be playing as well as anyone in the country right now. It's not easy to win on the road in this conference, and the Wildcats certainly struggled with that last year though. Cal doesn't have that many good wins and haven't looked all that solid, but they are still a respective 8-4. This is a chance for them to get a big win in conference.

DEPAUL AT CINCINNATI. Both these teams currently have respective RPIs, but that isn't all that significant right now because we're not even through half the season yet. Cincinnati's only loss came to Illinois. The Bearcats have been inconsistent this season. They've blown out teams like Vanderbilt, but did not look good at all against some other cupcake teams (even though they were still able to win). Depaul has also been very inconsistent on the year. CUSA appears to be strong (accept in the national rankings) so both teams will have opportunities to put together a good resume. I don't really know what to expect tonight. Both teams have been inconsistent and that has been their biggest problem.

MIAMI FL AT GEORGIA TECH. Miami has done much better than most people probably expected. They actually have a pretty good team. This is a very tall order though (as are most ACC teams). Georgia Tech's only two losses came to Gonzaga and Kansas. They have yet to lose on their home floor. Miami is good, but Tech appears to be better. Still, a great opportunity for Miami.

PACIFIC AT LONG BEACH. Pacific is clearly the best team in the Big West. Utah State is a close second, but other than that no one is near their level. They are very capable of running the table, which is probably what they'll have to do to get an at large bid.

GONZAGA AT SANTA CLARA. This Santa Clara team got off to a great start, but they have just been playing like doodoo since then. They have lost six of their last seven games. Their one win came against a Div2 team, and none of the losses were to anyone that is any good other than possibly Arizona State. Gonzaga has been playing unbelievable basketball. In fact, when the projections come out on Sunday, they could possibly get a #1 seed. This is perhaps the biggest rivarly in the WCC, so take nothing for granted, but Gonzaga is clearly the superior team.

WASHINGTON AT USC. USC is a respective 7-6 on the year, but they've lost their first two conference games. Washington is playing outstanding basketball, but this could potentially be a tough road trip. The Trojans have yet to lose at home. One never knows what's going to happen in the Pac Ten. Last year Washington lost their first five conference games, and then went on an absolute tear and wound up finishing second. Literally, anyone can beat anyone on any given night.

MEMPHIS AT TEXAS. After losing four otu of five games, Memphis finally looked good in their win against East Tennessee State. As of now, their RPI is 194 and they are nowhere close to being on pace to receive an at large bid. Texas, on the other hand, is playing very well. They are at home tonight and should win without too much trouble.

WASHINGTON STATE VS UCLA. Wazzu is perhaps the hardest team to figure out. They are 6-5. When they're on, they're great but when they're off, they just stink. UCLA is having a pretty good season and they are coming off of a great win at Oregon. They are still just 7-3 and really need to do well in conference play to get a bid to the dance.

RICE AT UTEP. Big game in the WAC here for two frontrunners. UTEP is 11-2 and has won eight in a row since losing to Texas A&M. Rice is 6-3, but two of those losses were at UConn and at Syracuse. They still don't have that good of a win, but their RPI is high (mainly because of UConn and Syracuse) and they are definitely in good shape as far as earning an NCAA tournament bid. I don't know the last time Rice went to the tournament, but it has been awhile, so there is much for the Owls to be excited about.
