Re: Purdue: In or Out?
Notable Losses
@ Georgia Tech (79-61)
@ Butler (68-65)
@ Michigan (71-55)
Notable Wins:
Virginia (61-59)
Indiana (81-68)
Who's left: Iowa, N'western, Minnesota, N'western, Big 10 tournament
Thos first two losses are notable because they're the only teams that Purdue played OOC that are worth mentioning. Granted, both are on their opponent's home court, but both are still losses. A blowout loss to Michigan doesn't help the matter.
I believe that Virginia is a Tournament team, so a win over the Cavs looks nice. Also, Indiana is a good win, but it would look even better had it been a road win.
Even if they win the rest of their games, none of those wins will be notable because those four teams stink. If I did my math correctly, that would put them at 21-9 overall and 10-6 in the Big 10. Most year's, a Big 10 conference record like that would probably get you win, but I don't think it will this year. I guess if they win the Big 10 championship....

I can GUARANTEE you that 10-6 will get a team in from the Big Ten this year, especially since Purdue will have RPI around 30 after those wins. There are so many teams around .500 in conference play right now that are actually in the tourney from the big six
TM, you have to do a bracket and evalate the bubble teams at the end... there is a lot of middle ground teams in the big conferences this year... illinois at 6-6 is in my tournament this week... as is Ole Miss.
If someone goes 10-6 in any big 7 conference (11-7 for the MVC) they are almost assuredly in.... they certainly won't make an example of a team with a 30-35 RPI.
BTW, if Purdue loses one of the upcoming games, and goes 9-7, they still have a sub 40 RPI, and I would be shocked if they did not get in with 9-7. Purdue is sitting fairly pretty right now given there upcoming schedule.

I can't believe Lunardi has them out personally...
Have you done a bracket lately, juniornoboa?

They were out on my last bracket (as of last Sunday) because they were 5-6 in conference, and did not have that Indiana win at the time.
I did not realize they have a pretty easy track to 9-7 and a good RPI as well. There one of those teams that does not look that solid right now, but if you predict ahead like you do CP, then they should be pretty solid in a few weeks.

Ya, you're right - not making a bracket doesn't give me a chance to evaluate teams (as compared to other teams), but I just don't know enough about or watch enough of the mid-majors to give a correct evaluation. I guess I could look at records, but still... Besides, I generally just stick with looking at Lunardi's, your's and coolpohle's brackets to get my info.
I almost said they're in after adding in their final games and seeing their final conference record. But, the Big 10 is horrible this year. I understand that history tells us that teams with above .500 conference records in these major conferences and teams with top 30 RPI ratings generally get in, but just looking at wins and losses - they've got that nice win over Indiana, and that's it! Again, with me not making a bracket, I don't know this, but - there aren't teams (mid-major or even low major) out there more deserving? (<- that's an honest question, no sarcasm intended)

Re: In or Out? (2/16): PURDUE
Generally a top 40 RPI from a major conference is good enough to get in. If Purdue wins out (@ Iowa is the only real question mark) they'll be fine.
