Bubble Watch (Feb 25)
Lots of teams locked up bids this weekend.
Locks : Defined as a team that can lose the rest of its games and will get in the tournament
There are 40 Locks Right Now
Pac 10 (5) - UCLA, Wash St, USC, Oregon, Arizona
ACC (6) - UNC, Virginia Tech, Virginia, BC, Duke, Maryland
Big Ten (4) - Ohio St, Wisconsin, Michigan St., Illinois
MVC (3) - Southern Illinois, Creighton, Missouri St
BE (5) - Georgetown, Pitt, Louisville, Notre Dame, Marquette
SEC (4) - Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee
MWC (3) - UNLV, BYU, Air Force
Big 12 (3) - Texas A&M, Kansas, Texas
Colonial (2) - VCU, Old Dominion
One Team In Conference teams that are Locks if they lose their tourney - Nevada, Xavier, Memphis, Butler
One Team In Conference Teams on the Bubble if they lose their tourney - Winthrop, Gonzaga, Davidson
Conference Leaders that must win tourney to get in - Toldeo, Long Beach St, Bucknell, Penn, Vermont, South Alabama, Marist, Oral Roberts, Austin Peay, ETSU, Weber St, Sam Houston St, CCSU, Delware St, Miss Valley St.
So that's 57 Spots - leaves 8 spots open:
Near Lock Bubble Teams
Stanford - Just has to beat Arizona St at home, which should be relatively easy... but if they lose that game could end up 9-9 in conference, and I think they would miss. (Key - Beat ASU at home)
Indiana - Another team that just has to do its business. Win either at Northwestern or at home vs Penn St and they are safe... but lose those games and they are a .500 teams, with a 30ish RPI, and a bad end to the season. Almost a lock, but they most close the deal with an easy win.
Kansas St -
to be updated later....

Re: Bubble Watch (Feb 25)
If K-state wins tonight vs Okie State they are in but they need to root for Butler, Gonzaga, Winhtrop, for them NOT to lose in the conferernce tourneys b/c then that team might force out KSU.

Re: Bubble Watch (Feb 25)
USC isn't a lock if they lose out. That will leave them at 11-7 and an RPI in the 50s. 11-7 in the Pac 10 doesn't make you a lock. Stanford missed at 11-7 last year.
Stanford has to play Arizona yet as well. If they lose that one, that leaves them at 10-8 and very much on the bubble.
Kansas St. is in with a win @ Oklahoma St. or vs. Oklahoma.

They are ABSOULUTELY a lock. No questions asked. The Pac-10 is stronger this year then last. 11-7 easily gets you in - you are letting the RPI have more significane then a conference record (especially a conference with a balanced schedule) which quite frankly is wrong.

Are locks? You have to be kidding me.
i don't really think Old Dominion and Virginia Commonwealth will make it though...
ODU will get in as an at-large (RPI, Better conference record then Drexel, Top 50 resume)... VCU would get in as the conference champ right now.. remember the Colonial got multiple bids last year, and had a certain team make the final four.
also i dont see how Indiana is on the bubble
they've been playin worse lately but still..
Ummm... if they had lost those last two games, then yes, absolutely they are on the bubble, plust lost in the first round of the Big-10 tournament. Remember my definition of lock...

Right concept wrong teams.
Winthrop is sketchy as an at-large (more so then say an Appalachian St who will get in as at large if need be), and Gonzaga will not get an at-large.
Here are the surefire teams from potentially one-conference teasm that would get at-large if they lose in the tourney.. this is who you have to watch:
- Nevada to win their tourney
- Xavier to win the A-10
- Butler to win
- Appalachian St to win the Southern
- Old Dominion to win the Colonial
- maybe Winthrop

USC is definitely a lock. They're probably a 5 seed right now.

USC is more likely in the 5-8 are.. probably a 5 is stretching it. Either way, a lock.

Re: Bubble Watch (Feb 25)
Vilanova is no where near a lock. Depending on how the BE tourny lays itself out, Nova could be matched up with DePaul again. If Nova had 2 loses on at home and one neutral to DePaul, it would be near impossible for them to make the tournament. To say they are a lock because of their computer numbers would be a vast mistake.
