Re: Biggest possible first round upset?
I could see Stanford winning...dominant inside game and they have the ability to really lock down the paint.

Re: Biggest possible first round upset?
Note, I don't consider any team that is seeded #11 or lower to be an upset. Only 12-16.
Now I know some don't like the Miami Redhawks, but I do feel this team can beat Oregon. This Oregon team looks mighty similar to the U-Dub team from 1999 that they beat 59-58 in the first round. Albeit that Miami team had Wally Szczerbiak, but I must mention that Charlie Coles is one of the best coaches in America.
He tends to make up for his team's lack of talent with amazing strategy. If this game is played in the low 50's (which it probably will be), then Miami will have a chance to win it, and that's all you want.
Akron may have been the better team than Miami, but the way the Redhawks play they are never blown out. If Oregon comes out trying to beat them shooting 3's, they are going to find themselves in a meat grinder. There's a reason why other MAC schools respect them so much.

Re: Biggest possible first round upset?
I like Creighton to handle Nevada and than march to the sweet 16 by beating Memphis.

apelman maybe being in Wisconsin you didn't get to see Nevada play this year but they won't lose the first round game.

Re: Biggest possible first round upset?
Here's the crazy stat for the day. In the past 22 years (when they went to 64 teams) #9's actually have a winning record against #8's. Secondary stat for the day is that #12's have a better winning percentage than #11's and #12's that carry through win over half of their second round games too.

Re: Biggest possible first round upset?
What good team has Nevada beat. Did Alberta see something that the rest of the world did not?
We know they have low standards for politicians up in Alberta, but for basketball teams as well. Interesting

In 1999 I had Gonzaga in the Elite Eight (their first year to do it) and I also had Kent State.
I also have called many #1 seeds going down early through my years. However, where I usually get screwed is when I pick a team like Clemson (in 1998) to go to the Elite Eight and Western Michigan comes along and destroys them in the first round.

Are you serious? They lost last year to Montana as #5 seed.

Just because you don't have scorers doesn't mean you can't win a game. In fact, Southern Illinois isn't a great 4 seed, so it's not unrealistic to see Illinois making the Sweet 16. If you want a comparison to last year, th | |
