Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

Two things:

a.) I like to see Purdue on the bubble. They had a miserable December, but have built some quality wins in the conference thus far.

b.) I think you can take Mizzou off the bubble. Hannah is out 4-6 weeks...I think they'll struggle the rest of the way.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

Counting up the "locks" - that's 26 bids. Add a few more conference winners... There are a TON of spots to fill still... I know you're projecting, but I think at least two of those Pac 10 bubble teams will be in... I think UF and MSU are pretty sure bets too. By seasons end, somehow Kentucky will be on some bubble lists... I don't see Notre Dame missing the tourney either... I end my random thoughts there.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

Missouri's been a very disappointing team for me this year, as I thought they would be really solid. I thought Keon Lawrence would make some big strides this year but he's taken a step backwards. They've lost 5 games by six points or less, which surely hasn't helped, either.

Purdue has to be considered a bubble team at 15-5 and 6-1, especially with the way their defense is playing. That win over Wisconsin, as well as wins over Louisville and Ohio St. already will look good to the committee on Selection Sunday. They still have some work to do, though.

The thing with these bubble watch lists is that it's not a perfect science. Everyone's got their own definition of what a lock and a bubble team should look like.

You can't forget about the other 15 or however many conferences that I didn't list, TM. Florida, Mississippi St., and Notre Dame are all teams that you could consider locks, but I decided to be safe and just put them as bubble teams. Maybe I'll put in a Bubble But In Spot next week.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

haha, that sounds good. i understand what you're saying. I wouldn't consider UF, MSU, ND "locks" either. But I'm 95% sure they'll make the tournament. Good list.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

Arizona St. was looking pretty good until they lost back to back home games to Washington and Washington St. Now they've got some work to do.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

I think Seton Hall should be in the mix somewhere; their RPI is 47. They've been playing some good ball lately. I know they still need a signature win (they're 3-5 against the RPI top 100), but they have plenty of opportunities left to get. It's too bad they couldn't hold on to get that win at Marquette.

Re: Bubble Watch (1-29-08)

Yeah, you're probably right Lari, they're a bubble team at this point, although they're on the outside looking in. Let's see how they get through a brutal stretch the next couple of weeks that features road contests against Georgetown, 'Nova, and West Virginia, not to mention tough home contests against Notre Dame and Marquette.
