Who do you prefer
Which do you prefer?
What teams do you think should make the tournament.
a) Power conference teams with .500 or .500+ records in conference but a questionable OOC (and therefore RPI's of 60+), but with enough top 50 wins
or
b) Lower conference teams with 40-50ish RPI's and good records, but no quality wins against top 50 teams..
And before saying none will make the tournament, no doubt some will.
I know each team is looked at individually, but as a group each is very similar.

Re: Who do you prefer
Gosh this is a tough question. I think that based on resume's thus far and based on the fact that Houston whooped up on Kentucky, that if Kentucky gets in ahead of Houston, it would be a travesty.
Wake and Kentucky really only got up for one big game this year, that being Duke and Tennessee respectively. Would any of those 3 mid-majors be able to beat Duke or Tennessee? Doubtful.
I really don't see a win on WKU's OOC schedule that makes me say "wow", while I love ASU's OOC win over Xavier. New Mexico has a great record but they're 3rd in the MWC...can you really take the 3rd place team from the Mountain West?
I really didn't clear anything up, I just hope that the 3 best ouf of those 6 get in...
However, if I had to pick a group, I'd probably take the 3 little guys...Those in major conferences get every opportunity to get into the tournament...all they basically have to do is get 10 conference wins and finish in the top 5 of their conference...those little guys have very little room for error.
Gimme the Cougs, Lobos, and Hilltoppers.

Re: Who do you prefer
i don't see any of the 6 with surefire resumes. there are a lot of other teams that should get in first.

Of course none of them have surefire resumes, they are all on the bubble.
If you think you can fill the field with 65 teams that should get in first you are mistaken. With the last few spots you have to decide between these teams.
Sit down and choose your 65 teams, and you will see these teams are clearly in the discussion for the last few spots.

Re: Who do you prefer
Put Miami in the place of Wake and I'd definitely take the first group

Miami is not there because they have a strong RPI and good out of conference performance.
All three power conference teams have the same characteristics. Poor OOC, low RPI.

I gotcha
Out of the 6 then, who do you think will actually make it?

I'll take ASU and Houston, and wait a few more weeks before deciding on the third. You can't just take all 3 mid-majors, or all three majors. None of them have the same schedule, you just have to judge all teams individually and hope you pick the right teams.

Re: Who do you prefer
Are any of these teams even going to get an at-large bid?

I'd like to see a bracket that does not have any of them.
I actually have three of them.... my last four in are Illinois St, New Mexico, Wake Forest, Arizona St.

Re: Who do you prefer
It's a good question really. I mean I'd rather see a second A-10 or WCC or MAC team in the Tourny than the 8th best Big East team or 7th ACC team. If you punished some of the schools from the major conferences that play 75% of their non-conference games on home court against poor opponents simply as a means to rack up wins then you'd get better games in December.
For quite a while you've had teams like Gonzaga loading up their non-conference schedule just to gain a little attention. Then they get a good program in place and teams won't pick them up in their non-conference schedules anymore (UWash for example).
