Nebraska probably has one of the best resumes ever for a team with an RPI of 96.
They really don't have any bad losses.
There RPI is horrid, because of the ratio of 100-200 bs 200+ games (the little secret of schools that play the RPI game is to avoid those sub 250 games that kill you, and to keep that ratio high)
Unfortunately Nebraska missed the RPI game memo, and do not know how to play the game.
Really they played as many "meaningful" OOC games as many tournement teams, perhaps even more balls because they actually played good mid-majors on the road :
Away: Creighton, Western Kentucky
Home: Arizona St, Oregon
The problem is of the other 9 victories, 7 were at home against real creampuffs (teams with 250+ RPI's),,,,, of course they could have played the RPI game which is playing teams ranked 100-200 at home, which gives a false SOS.
Are we going to start denying teams from the tournmanet because they beat better creampuffs then other schools? That's essectually what the RPI game is turning into.
Are we going to condemn Nebraska's OOC, when in fact they showed more balls then any other BCS schools by actually playing good mid-majors on the road?
Does the committee want to make a point this year. Creampuffs are still creampuffs... were on to the RPI game. Give us something of substance... and despite the seven brtual creampuffs, Nebraska has given them something of substance OOC.
So let's throw out all the sub 100 games... they lost two games on the road to Colorado and Iowa St... bad losses, but all bubble teams have them.
So Let's just look at the top 100:
There top 100 record of 7-7 is much better then Syracuse's of 5-10.
It's probably not enough, but Nebraska's resume is much better then people are giving it credit, and I would certainly pick them over Syracuse for the tournament.
Still there a little short, so I don't think there getting screwed by not making it, but they deserve consideration despite the RPI:
Beating Texas on the road is necessary. If they somehow end up at 9-7 and don't make it to the NCAA tournament because of a low RPI, then it is clear that the commottee is giving the following message:
a) It doesn't really matter who you play OOC as long as you beat good creampuffs, not bad creampuffs.
End of rant.
