Re: 6 people always in an NCAA office pool.

Lol, they had Henderson and Scheyer last year......and i'm sorry, but King and Smith did not impress me from the little i watched of them(i admit i did not watch much). From what i saw tho, they try hard and im sure they're good team guys, but i have some major doubts......Your best player, Nelson, is GONE.... I mean, Paulus has yet to live up to the hype and is already going into his senior year..... Singler is an decent looking player, but i don't know if he is the best player on an elite team....(?)

Their best hope i think is to land Reik, and if so I think they can get back to that elite level. Yes, they won some big games this year that i didn't think they would, but just from watching them they did not look like an elite team should look. Mainly because they lacked size and speed. They basically just happend to get hot at the right times and rain threes, but u cant live by 3 in the tournment that's all im sayin....UF went thru the same stage of 1st week exists so i kno how it feels...Just hope ur coach recognizes the problem and starts recruiting the type of players u need to win and be successful again. (For Duke, i think they need slashers and big men....people who attack the basket and can finish, and a new PG for next year cuz a Paulus is average at best)

And just because a player is McD AA does not mean they are going to autimatically be great players or are going to help u win...

Sorry, but that means nothing. Smith is going to be good. He showed that earlier (before mid-Feb). Sorry you missed it.

A statement which tells me you only watched late February, early March games. The guy was solid (solid shooting guard) this year.

Your quote was...

finally got a solid lookin recruit coming their way(Williams)
Who said anything about being the best player? BTW, From the 3-4 games you watched, who was the best player? I'm sure two of those were tournament games. Your answer should be Henderson.

Too bad he's going straight to the NBA.

1/3-1/2 of them become McD AA's because they pick Duke, not because they earn it.

You have lots of good points, however you've intermingled them with some that are inaccurate. That's all I'm sayin.

Well, ill just have to take your word for it. Im sure u know alot more about him then i do at this point, so i'll try and follow him more next year.

I said he was a decent player. He just hasn't lived up to his (5*, McD All-American) hype as this amazing PG. Point being, he quite frankly just hasn't lived up to expectations. If by solid, u mean a little above average, then yes i can agree with that. He is a spot up shooter, but i dont know about his creative ability and vision as a pg or his quickness. He has yet to amaze..

I already said i thought Nelson was their best player.....then yes, probly Gerald or Sigler, and then Scheyer....unless i missed something out of Smith, If he's a good as you claim then i may be wrong about duke.

What? Is he really...? i didn't kno that...

Like I said, idk.....maybe i missed something out of smith....if he is quicker then Paulus then ur probly right.

You will lose Nelson, but add in EWill and Smith.... u should be fine then I guess....at least on the perimeter. Too bad u guys can't land any bigs tho....What happed to the days of recruiting guys like Elton Brand and Boozer, lol

True. That is also part of why i tend to not like duke tho...Players always seem to come in with all of these high accolades and then proceed to fail miserably or leave with diminishing or worse expectations then when they came in....It's like they get progressively worse. Just look at Paulus, McRoberts or Randolph for a typical example...lol. Duke's laundry list of under-achieving players(particularly big men) is pretty impressive, lol. Guys like Shavlik Randolph, Casey Sanders, Eric Boateng, Burgess & Michael Thompson, heavily out number the Brand, Boozers, and Williams'....The success of a couple legit, already skilled recruits hardly makes up for the disappointing development of so many McD's AAs in my mind.

Re: 6 people always in an NCAA office pool.

Me mentioning that 80%+ of the guys you mentioned either transferred before becoming anything or being hurt for the majority of their Duke careers would just be viewed as excuse-making, so I won't bother. I'd like for you to actually make a list of guys in the past 10 years, instead of just repeating stuff you've heard other non-Duke people say. I think you'd be at least a little surprised.

I've never seen someone more out of place at the McD's AA game than Boateng was.

Re: 6 people always in an NCAA office pool.

he and Sanders both had no place playing in that game. Case in point = pick Duke, McD AA stock up, up, up. People know that both those guys had (I believe) less than 4 years basketball experience when they came to Duke, right? Hence, no excuse being in that game.

Re: 6 people always in an NCAA office pool.

But wouldn't you think coach K would develop their skills....sure Brand and Maggette and such went pro but they had serious talent from jump.....their game was already nice before going to Duke, hence goin pro after like one/two years.....Boozer and Battier were guys who could've left whenever, but just wanted to stay for the experience. Same with Jay Will, his size and position were pretty much the reasons for why he stayed their as long as he did. Then you have the guys like McRoberts few and far b/ween who could've been a late lottery picks outta HS, but just never developed....The longer they stay the lower their stock seems to dropp....lack of development....I see the same thing with Paulus....yeah he plays hard, but his vision is no better then when he came in to duke to now. After looking at it, I think Coach K's development skills are overrated, he needs realize this and go back to recruiting talant like he was a few years ago and quit tryin to find the next Bobby Hurley and Christian Laetner

Ya, I'll agree with that, minus 2 small things - The Battier statement and the last sentence. Recruit talent? Like Nelson, Livingston, McRoberts, Henderson, Singler, Smith, and Williams? And those are just the guys they got. They also went after guys, who I've already mentioned in another thread just a few days ago. But then again, why recruit the talent, he's just going to ruin it, right?

Re: 6 people always in an NCAA office pool.

well, we'll see it goes. I think he's a good coach he just needs to revitalize his strategy a bit, and start getting the elite bigs wanting to go their again. He is a top 5 coach, If he can do that i think they will be fine and he should have them goin deep in the tournament more consistently in no time.
