Sup guys. I read these forums because I obviously respect every single one of your opinion's, and now I turn to all of you for help starting tomorrow.
I stopped filling out a bracket for those bracket pools a few years ago because quite frankly, I thought they were stupid. You can do a better job of flipping a coin to determine the winner of those games. Not to mention, you have to predict the winner of the entire thing to have a chance to win.
I stumbled across one of my family member's work pools, and it's the best pool I've ever been in. Here are the rules:
You pick 8 teams...any 8 teams you want.
Let's say one of my 8 teams was George Mason (a 12 seed). I get 12 points for each one of George Mason's wins since their a 12 seed. Obviously if George Mason loses in the first round, then I get 0 points for them. The other rules that apply are that if your team(s) make the Final Four, it's a 5 point bonus and if you have the national champion as one of your 8 teams, then you get a 10 point bonus.
Here's 3 examples:
George Mason won 4 games in 2006 as a 12 seed. So that's 48 points plus 5 points because they made the Final Four. A total of 53 points...which is about as good as you can get in a pool like this. (I had them that year and I won the tournament going away)
Kansas won 6 games and the National Championship last year as a 1 seed. So that would be 6 points for the 6 wins as the 1 seed, an additional 5 for making the Final Four, and an additional 10 for winning the National Championship. A combined 21 points.
Wisconsin won 2 games last year as a 3 seed. Thus earning them 6 points.
I think you get the jist of it.
While we don't know the seeds yet, I'd appreciate it if you came on here tomorrow night to help me out.
Some teams I was eyeing up were:
Syracuse - Now that they got hot their seed will probably be like a 3 and everyone will be jumping on them...but I still like for them to win 3 games.
Gonzaga - CP has been high on them as a sleeper...and now there blowout loss to Memphis looks a little better considering how well Memphis has played.
I hope to all see you posting on this tomorrow night.
antsports.com also runs one that I play in every year which is a little different than normal in that you get more points for upset picks and you pick round by round as the tournament goes on.
West Virginia could be a nice choice as we just saw them knock off Pittsburgh the other night. Butler and Ruoff are playing very well and the freshmen Ebanks and Bryant are contributing pretty nicely as well.
Utah St. has an amazing trio in Wilkinson, Quayle, and Wesley. I could see them reeling off a couple wins.
And we can't forget about the Temple team I've been hyping for much of the year. Christmas can lead them to a win or two, also.

I'm really basing this on who I think will win a few games from the 4-13 range.
Here's who I have so far...
13 - Cleveland State
4 - Gonzaga
6 - West Virginia
6 - Marquette
I really wanted to take Syracuse but the fact that they moved all the way up to a 3 kind of disappoints me. Even if they make the elite 8, it's only 9 points...I can get 9 points from like Siena or something.
I've got to take 4 more teams! I may not even keep Marquette, so 5...
Apelman, you obviously know more about this contest playing in it before than I do. It seems to be me like a good strategy would be taking a bunch of 10-13 seeds. So the teams I like would be:
USC
Temple
Wisconsin
Cleveland St.
Minnesota
Utah St.
Arizona
Mississippi St.
If you like lower seeded teams that can go far, I like:
Gonzaga
Purdue
UCLA
Clemson
Good Luck!

I just saw that NDSU is loaded with seniors against a relatively new Kansas crowd.
Can a Bison nip the Jayhawks again!??!?
They're a nice story, for sure. First year eligible for the tourney and they make it. Woodside dropped 63 on Stephen F. Austin earlier in the year. Surely a lot of talent on that team, but can they stop Kansas?
