Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
You wanna tally up are scores, JN? I'm busy doing my bracket.
I really have no idea how I did compared to others. I seemed to have missed quite a bunch but I'm sure others did as well.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
I got 25 right.
The amount i get right is NEVER a grade of my work, but a grade of the committee. Quite frankly, I know what I am doing. Since I got less right then normal, it simply means the committee did a very poor job this year, and started from the disgrace as Duke`s ranking on the 1 line, and the fact that they are a number one seed. Right from that choice, it became clear we were dealing with a committee that lacked the competence to deal with the basic parameters that had been established and that are used to evalute teams.
When I get more right, it is not about me, it just means the committee did a good job.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
There are a lot of things you can find in the committee that they did wrong. But picking on the Duke one is weak. Temple, Notre Dame, Marquette, etc. I'll give you those. But what did West Virginia do that was so impressive that they should have been a one over Duke? They lost at home twice - something Duke was never in danger of doing, and they did nothing to say they deserved a one over Duke.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
Games are not played at home in the tournament. If two teams are tied, then road wins are more important then home losses. But my opinion is much more then Duke. Duke is only a small part of their errors, but a very visible one because it is at the one line. Also, giving Duke the rights to the weakest 2 and 4 seed is questionable.
But anyway, my failing grade more about the amount of teams that were off by two seeds... much more than normal... I will make some mistakes, but my opinions are pretty static from year to year... so I expect teams within a seed to be pretty close to my past performance.
I just think in a year where there was more at large seeds to non mid-majors they actually gave less respect in mid major seeding then normal.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
Games are not played on the road in the tournament, either.
And I doubt the committee sat there and said, let's give Duke the easiest 2 and 4 seeds. They're just busy making sure they fit all the bracket rules.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
The committee has always mentioned that it tries to balance the sweet 16 seeds. These seeds are always put on the bracket first. Its not that hard to balance.
Yes Duke was going to get an easy 4 seed, because they try to avoid rematches as long as possibe... so out if Wisconisn.. Maryland did not fit.... so it came down to Vandy or Purdue.
But why wasn`t the second seed Ohio St or West Virginia. West Virginia is a simple flop. Ohio St could have been put in, move Purdue to Kansas, move Vandy to Duke, and move Maryland to Syracuse.
There is absolutely no way a committee with any common sense could have seen the top four seeds as balanced.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
Well, they couldn't have put Maryland in Duke's region, and Vandy is just as weak as Purdue is.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
I beat you by a point JN! lol...I guess none of us three on here did very well. Or as you like to say, the committee didn't do well.

I re-edited my prior post (may want to read it)... the only choices they had at 4 were Vandy or 4 Purdue, so they were getting an easy matchup. Wisconsin is only a convention, but they try to avoid rematches. And obviously the committee thinks Vandy is better then us, because they have them on the four.
My main concern is at the two line. Do you think Villanova is the sixth best team. It should have been Kansas St, WVU or Ohio St, and an adjustment would have been easy.
Now perhaps the committee truly beleives Villanova was the number six team... the question is then,, why!!!

Saying the committee didnt do well, is the more childish way to say it, but I did. But in a way our opinions are pretty static from year to year... we just didnt become dumber or smarter overnight.
I am sure the people that scored best this year, still scored quite a bit lower than the highest scorers in prior years.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
At the end of the day I can`t complain as an SU fan. We should have been the three team, and the right second round matchup would have been either Kasnas St or Ohio St.
We should have got the second best four seed in our group, and we ended up with arguably the worst.
Its really Kansas that got shafted here. But they are still likely walking away with the title.

Re: Jn Final Seedings For Bracket Project
And the other positive, is that this has reignited my hate for Duke. I haven`t really hated Duke for about three or four years, and this just ignited the flame (whether its a stupid reason or not)
And something just feels good about really cheering against Duke again.
