the biggest change i'd like to see the selection committee make
it may be a little early for this, but one of the biggest things i'd like to see happen is this. if you've read the post stuck to the top, you can see that one of the things the committee takes into consideration is quality wins. the problem for teams coming out of the mid major and low major conferences is that the second half of their schedule is not going to give them that many opportunities to play, much less win against, rpi top 50 and top 25 teams.
therefore, the biggest modification i would make to the selection process is for all the regular season conference champions and regular season division champions to be credited with an additional win against an rpi top 25 team. in other words, winning your conference in the regular season is the same as winning against an rpi top 25 team. last year, holy cross and southern illinois, who were good teams but lost in the first round, would have gotten a more favorable seed and probably would have advanced. holy cross was ahead of marquette (a final four team) with a minute to go and so. illinois lost barely lost to missouri.
there are countless other examples, but those were just the two that popped to mind. if a team wins the conference tournament to get the at large bid, but did not win the conference regular season, then they would not benefit from this, but for teams like penn, southern illinois, and holy cross that won both the regular season and the tournament, they would. anyway, that is just my idea.
