pod projections for december 8th!!!
not a bracket, but the next best thing. the following is a projection of teams that would make it into the pod system and benefit if the tournament were to start today. the teams were seeded and placed on the board using every method discussed in the "welcome" post that was available. the order in which they appear is the order in which i think they would appear on the board.
seed.......team........(desired pod).........(pod they were given)
1. georgia tech...(raleigh, nc)...(raleigh, nc)
1. wake forest....(raleigh, nc)...(raleigh, nc)
1. kentucky....(columbus, oh)...(columbus, oh)
1. stanford....(seattle, wa)....(seattle, wa)
2. florida....(orlando, fl)....(orlando, fl)
2. north carolina...(raleigh, nc)...(orlando, fl)
2. kansas....(kansas city, mo)...(kansas city, mo)
2. saint joseph's....(buffalo, ny)....(buffalo, ny)
3. gonzaga.....(seattle, wa)....(seattle, wa)
3. connecticut...(buffalo, ny)....(buffalo, ny)
3. purdue......(milwaukee, wi)...(milwaukee, wi)
3. missouri.....(kansas city, mo)...(kansas city, mo)
4. duke.....(raleigh, nc).....(columbus, oh)
4. oklahoma....(kansas city, mo)....(denver, co)
4. arizona.....(denver, co).....(denver, co)
4. wisconsin.....(milwaukee, wi).....(milwaukee, wi)
-you can see how even getting into the pod system will not actually get a team placed where they want to be if it is given out to someone else that is higher on the board.
-if you don't see your team on this list and are wondering why, it could be for a lot of reasons. a lack of road wins, a lack of quality wins, a weak schedule, a low rpi, etc. if you have specific questions or comments about teams, by all means, fire away. that is what the forum is for.
-the following list is of the teams i looked at that did not make the pod system. the order they are in is the exact order in which i am projecting them to appear on the board:
cincinnati
texas
illinois
dayton
pittsburgh
michigan state
marquette
syracuse
-i believe that would account for the top 6 seeds in each region.
-remember that this is what it would look like if the bracket came out today. we have a long way to go and a lot of teams have not been given the chance to prove themselves yet. however, the benefits of scheduling road games and high quality opponents should be evident based on these projections.
-more to come later..........

Georgia Tech will be going to Orlando before they are going to Raleigh bank on it.
Two North Carolina schools will be in the Raleigh pod.

keep in mind though that the selection committee does not work for the ncaa or cbs. even if they did, the money is made long before the games are even played. the venues have already put in their bids to host the games. cbs has already sold all the commercial time, and the venues don't have all that much of a say on what teams they get. they shipped duke out west last year. if somone in that region is higher on the board than they are, then they'll get the nod.

Not correct my friend and I will explain.
Duke got the moved out because their was no region close enough for the Blue Devils, so they shipped them to Utah where they knew both games would be sellouts.
Now to make my point.
If that was the case about the higher seeds, why was No. 2 Kansas put in the OKC pod with No.1 seed Oklahoma, when No. 1 seed Texas should have been placed there.
You know, cause Kansas and Oklahoma would sell more tickets for the second round if they advanced. They sent Texas to Birmingham even though Texas should have been in OKC. And before someone says well someone needed to play the playin game winner. Kentucky played on a Friday-Sunday schedule also so they could have easily been placed with the winner of UNC-Asheville and Texas Southern.
I reiterate, their is no way that a combination of Duke, Wake or UNC is in Raleigh. That venue is not sold out currently, but if either of those teams are available it will be a sellout.
You will not see Georgia Tech in Raleigh. It will be Orlando if they get a pod.

There will not be 4 ACC teams amongst the top 4 seeds. Has that ever happened?

you mean four #1 seeds from the same conference or 4 teams from the same conference seeded 4 or higher??
newmessiah,
i'd forgotten texas was in birmingham last year. i'll have to track down someone that served on the committee one of the past two years and reexamine that theory about how they are given out.

Four teams from one conference, a 4 seed or higher.
Now that I think about it the Big East in 1996 was loaded and probably had four such teams
UConn - Ray Allen (2 seed? )
Villanova - Kerry Kittles ( 3 seed?)
Georgetown - Allen Iverson ( 2 seed? )
Syracuse - John Wallace (4 seed)

UConn was a 1 seed in the Southeast
Georgetown was a 2 seed in the East
Villanova was a 3 seed in the Midwest
Syracuse was a 4 seed in the West

here is the original press release about the pod system. it makes no mention of higher seeds getting preferential treatment, but it does mention that not all teams will be able to stay in their geographic region. as to what rhyme or reason some teams get to stay and others get to go is not mentioned. most of the evidence i have seen indicates that it is placement on the board. although newmessiah's example shows that it is not universal, i do think that it at least plays a little bit of a role. one example is that xavier and kentucky went to nashville last year and dayton, who had a lower seed, was shipped out west.
here is the article, although i'm still trying to find something from someone that has actually been on the committee since the pod system was implemented.
http://www.ncaa.org/releases/champot...01071201co.htm
as someone that is not a fan of the pod system, i'm sure it will come as no surprise to newmessiah10 that it was originally mike tranghese's idea. i had not known that until i read this press release.

Mike Tragreasy is ruining college sports across the board. So no I am not surprised.
I want the pods gone, so I can pick more upsets.
