sorting through tonight's wreckage (bracketology notes)
WOW!!! what a crazy night.
-tonight could easily be dubbed "fatal blow night." remember that bracket i posted earlier today?? well, if i were to do it over again now it would look a whole lot different.
-boston college lost at home to villanova.
-vanderbilt lost their second straight game at tennesee.
-oklahoma state RIPPED oklahoma. that is oklahoma second straight road loss by 20+ points. this was more surprising than the loss to connecticut. oklahoma state just trashed them. although i think they certainly have a good team, i wasn't all THAT impressed when i saw them against pepperdine and most recently against texas tech. oklahoma's record and ranking may be deceiving if they get trashed like that two nights in a row. we'll wait and see how they do now that they are in conference.
-xavier lost at duquesne. they appeared to be pulling themselves up and seemed poised to really be in position to put together a good resume, but this pretty much kills them. this is their second bad loss. not only that, it is possible that both duquesne and ball state will finish with sub 200 rpis. that pretty much kills their at large hopes unless they REALLY do something incredible to compensate for it between now and the end of the year.
-dayton barely held on to win against richmond, but at least they got it done. dayton has been winning ugly, but on paper the wins are all that matter. if they can keep churning them out, they'll be in good shape. right now they are right on the bubble.
-colorado beat nebraska at nebraska. nebraska was another bubble team that is slowly slipping down the standings.
-creighton lost to northern iowa. chalk up a bad loss for them. that will haunt them come selection sunday.
-wisconsin missed a great opportunity to strengthen their foothold on the milwaukee pod. they lost at purdue. for purdue it was a good win. for wisconsin, it was a missed opportunity to pick up a good road win and sustain their current status.
-rhode island lost at temple. their situation was not all that secure to begin with and they have done very little to secure it in their last two games.
-illinois lost their second straight at northwestern. add them to the shoot oneself in the foot list.
-and now for the teams that did well, and the list isn't nearly as long.
-cincinnati remains unbeaten on the year. they beat a high quality marquette team on the road pretty handily.
-maryland won at home against north carolina. that is their third win against an rpi top 25 team. they have had some slipups on the road, but two of their losses were by 2 points or less. this is a strong maryland team, especially at home, and they showed it tonight.
-kansas held on to beat kansas state...barely.
-south carolina continues to add to their already high win total now that conference play has begun. they took care of auburn tonight and that is certainly a big win for them.
-connecticut trounced georgetown. it will be yet another rpi boost for uconn, at least for now because georgetown has a good record. however, georgetown continues to struggle against the rpi top 100 and showed no signs of breaking out of it tonight. that is a problem.
OH MY GOD THE BRACKETOLOGY WRECKAGE THAT TOOK PLACE TONIGHT!!!
