Cheap Expansion Draft
Looking through most of the rosters people are putting together, they seem to generally wind up in the $20-25 million dollar range. This is consistent with what Charlotte has been rumored to do, so no problems there. However, when I was coming up with my own little roster, I got through about a dozen guys and I realized they can gather up a fair amount of young talent all the while barely going over the $10 million range.
PG: Troy Bell (MEM, $1.4), Anthony Johnson (IND, $0.9)
SG: Alexsandar Pavlovovic (UTA, $1.1), Tamar Slay (NJN, $0.7)
SF: Gerald Wallace (SAC, $1.4), Qyntel Woods (POR, $1.1)
PF: Brian Skinner (MIL, $1.7), Brandon Hunter (BOS, $0.6)
C: Zaza Pachulia (ORL, $0.6), Jamal Sampson (LAL, $0.7)
X: 4 RFAs
Okay, so you don't exactly have a playoff contender there. However, you do have two guys at each position, including at least one young gun with some talent at each spot. Also, after adding in the salary of Howard as the second pick (trade 4th pick for 2nd pick + Peja Drobnjak, who can be cut to save $2.5 million off cap) at $3.5 million, and you're looking at a total payroll of only about $13.7 million. You're only halfway to your cap, allowing you to do some work in the FA and trade markets. I don't know exactly what you could nab with that money, but I'm sure you could make at least one or two pretty decent pickups.
I don't really think Charlotte will take this route, but it's still an interesting possibility in my opinion.

what about the two rumored trades?
Detroit and Elden.
Phoenix and White.
(both giving cash/picks so the Cats take them)
The more picks for the Cats, the better.

They could do both of those, no problem. If they want the cap room (the point of this draft idea), they can always cut them.
With regards to the Pistons deal though: on the Detroit board, there is a thread that popped up today that said it was actually Williamson who was left unprotected, and not Cambell. If that's true, then there is no deal to be done. Also, in my opinion, resigning Okur doesn't seem nearly as important now as it did before Rasheed was brought over. If they aren't interested in resigning Okur, they don't really need the extra cap room. In other words, there's no reason to give up a first rounder just to dump a bit of salary.

Do you think Bernie has it in him to wheel and deal like he COULD?
By could, I mean something along the lines of maybe 6-8 trades for them to pick/not pick players?
I've read some of his blog on NBA.com, and his various comments over the past weeks and, to me, he just seems happy to be there and excited that people want to talk to him.
(edit---good point about the Pistons, I was basing that off something I read a few days ago, and haven't seen their official list, just the speculated one by espn's Ford last week)
