The Bobcats showed in their season opening game in Chicago on Wednesday night that they are still a second-year franchise learning what it takes to win on the road in the NBA, as they fell to the Bulls, 109-105, in overtime.
Charlotte led by as many as 25 points in the third quarter and appeared be in control of the contest, taking an 89-68 lead into the final stanza. However, the Bobcats quickly saw their lead evaporate as the Bulls outscored them, 30-9, in the fourth quarter to force the extra session.

(On what happened in the fourth quarter) We took 11 three-point shots in the second half. That's totally out of character for us. We only also had only five turnovers in the first half. We then wound up with 18. The three-point shots Chicago made were not challenged. Chicago just got Christmas early. What went wrong in the fourth quarter is obviously a concern for us. It shows what we are capable of. We were completely out of character. We started arguing with the referees that had absolutely nothing to do with the way we were playing the game. We just didn't finish. It's like that Shakespeare quote, "Fault lies not in the stars but in ourselves."

(On the game) Yes, it was disappointing. I had something like 30 people here. I really wanted to win this game. We thought we were going to break out of that cloud of not finishing games. Obviously we didn't.
(On his play) Fifteen boards? It would never have happened earlier in my career. I'm playing now with a coach who lets you play through mistakes. You can play much better when a coach trusts you and will leave you in there.
(On the finish) Things just went bad on us. There is no excuse for it. I am sure tomorrow in practice we'll ensure that it won't happen again.

(On fouling out) I messed up. The guys depended on me tonight and I was not there for them. That's the bottom line.
(On the Bobcats play) I have no idea how to explain it. That type of play is what was supposed to be different about us this year. That and the fact that I'm supposed to be out there to ensure that.

This is unacceptable, even for a second year team. All we needed to do was run the clock out, hold the ball, and take good shots.Instead we went out and played slefish basketball and lost, simple as that.

Dirk Nowitzki: “He is playing phenomenal and he comes to play every night. He is going to be a dominant player is this league.”
