Okafor out for season
http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlot...s/14098219.htm
Quote:
No more maybe. Charlotte Bobcats star Emeka Okafor is out for the season and a couple of months beyond.
The Bobcats say power forward Okafor has developed severe tendinitis in his sprained right ankle and will spend the next 4-6 weeks in a soft cast. The earliest he'd be ready for basketball activity is mid-summer.
He already missed 38 of the past 39 games with two sprains dating back to December. Yet throughout the process, Okafor and team officials maintained their intention that he would play again this season.
"At the beginning of the season, if you told me this would happen, I would have laughed at you and gone on my merry way,'' said Okafor, who has had one previous serious injury -- a back problem that limited him his last season at Connecticut.
The tendinitis developed over the past week or two, the team said. The Bobcats have 17 games left following Tuesday night's meeting with the Washington Wizards.
Potentially years away from playoff contention, the Bobcats address injuries conservatively this season.
"We have been very cautious with our players,'' coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. "That is our policy, that we try to look to the future with these guys.''
That could apply to another injury decision -- whether the Bobcats re-activate rookie power forward Sean May this season. May is scheduled to meet with medical staff Thursday to discuss whether his right knee has healed enough to consider playing. May has had two arthroscopic procedures to repair torn cartilage.
"I think we have to sit down and talk to him, get all the medical information from Joe (Sharpe, team athletic trainer), from Dr. (Glenn) Perry, talk to Sean and then make a decision,'' Bickerstaff said.
And how will the team's conservative approach factor in?
"It will carry a lot of weight in this decision,'' Bickerstaff said.

Not really a surprise but its official now

Re: Okafor out for season
I was hoping during the draft that Orlando would take Okafor so we could have Howard. *sigh* Thankfully we got other decent bigs. But I don't know, I'd consider giving him up. He's good on defense when around, but a liability on offense, and so injury prone.

Have to agree. What's the point of a great defender who's eternally out hurt? Let some other team go through him not being available for huge chunks of seasons. Charlotte may not get great return on him--everyone's seen how often he can't play--but even a fairly warm body beats the nothing he's been able to give this season...and since college.

Couldn't agree more. We need to get rid of him ASAP.

Re: Okafor out for season
i think the more mature this team gets, and if you put better players around Okafor, than he can become a huge contributor for this team. maybe not the go-to guy, But i feel like he can become part of the Bobcats success in the near future

I wish I could agree. Okafor has immense talent and desire, I don't doubt that for a second. Unfortunately, he's injury-prone and has been since college at least. If it's one thing last season and another this season, it'll be something else next year....and the year after that...and the year after that....
Unload him this off-season, before everybody in the League realizes what he is--we can probably still get good value for him.

Re: Okafor out for season
I have to agree. I wondered why they drafted Sean May, but now I know why. Okafor will be hurt his entire career.

Yeppers. Unfortunately, Sean May's going to top out at much lower level, IMO, than Okafor would have had he been healthy. We need somebody with Okafor's ability--and May to back that guy up.

Man, that sucks.
Brezec is the man, but he can't do it alone down there.
So if you guys think the 'Cats should give up on Okafor and that May isn't the answer, does this mean Charlotte drafting another PF this year?

Charlotte wants Adam Morrison in the worst way, if the Blazers (and whoever has the Knicks' pick now) don't grab him first.
Primo does rock, but you're right: He can't do it more or less alone. Plug that four hole immediately.

Adam Morrison in that tangerine road uniform would be...well...quite a sight.
I guess I'm trying to say he's ugly. Yes, he's ugly.

Depends on the picture. In some shots he's quite a pretty little boy

Re: Okafor out for season
We need something down on the block to help Primo. Maybe Aldridge? As for Morrison.. Ehh, I'm not sure how he'll do.
