Cats sign McInnis...Hoo freaking Ray.

It's pretty sad when this is the only thing we can manage.I'd rather pick up someone from the d league honestly.McInnis isn't any good and that was established ten years ago.So long as we aren't really serious about competing for the playoffs this season we may as well do it with someone who might have value in the future.

I don't know what Bonnell means when he claims that under the CBA the league will pay a large portion of McInnis contract.I've never heard anything that indicates the league subsidizes washed up bums.It would make more sense if someone else was paying him...Like maybe the other teams that want to make the playoffs in the East perhaps. He's certainly worth nothing close 1.1 million.

We're not really that far from being a decent team relative to the East, but it's just retarded if our FO thinks we can compete without any quality depth at the point or in the frontcourt.

Agent: McInnis to sign 1-year deal with Bobcats

Quote:
The Charlotte Bobcats will fill the major hole on their depth chart today by signing point guard Jeff McInnis, the Observer has learned.
McInnis' agent, Steve Kauffman, confirmed that McInnis will sign a one-year deal at the veteran minimum (approximately $1.1 million). Under the NBA's collective-bargaining agreement, the league will pay a large portion of McInnis' contract

Re: Cats sign McInnis...Hoo freaking Ray.

Per Coon's salary cap FAQ
Quote:
When a player has been in the NBA for three or more seasons, and is playing under a one-year, ten-day or rest-of-season contract, the league actually reimburses the team for part of his salary - any amount above the minimum salary level for a two-year veteran. For example, in 2005-06 the minimum salary for a two-year veteran is $719,373, so for a ten-year veteran, with a minimum salary of $1,138,500, the league would reimburse the team $419,127. Only the two-year minimum salary is included in the team salary, not the player's full salary. They do this so teams won't shy away from signing older veterans simply because they are more expensive when filling out their last few roster spots.
Per me...He's not worth 600 thousand either

Maybe Phil Ford agreed to pay part of his salary so that he could kick his ***

Re: Cats sign McInnis...Hoo freaking Ray.

The fact that he's not very good isn't and were planning on making him our primary backup to Felton isn't even the dumbest thing. I can't imagine that him or Ford will ever get along and when he's not a superstar whats the purpose of putting up with that. It's just going to mess with the rest of the team

Re: Cats sign McInnis...Hoo freaking Ray.

The Phil Ford/Touche' thing is overblown...and the re-signing should reinforce that.

Yahoo Sports

Quote:
Bobcats vice president of basketball operations Bernie Bickerstaff said McInnis and new coach Sam Vincent hit it off during offseason workouts.

"Jeff did a nice job for us last year and he's certainly a veteran backup," Bickerstaff said. "He and Sam were on the same page. Sam was really impressed with Jeff. They've been working together this summer and communicating."
Coach V wanted him after being around him thru the summer. Nuff said.

BTW...so far as picking up a D Leaguer...has the memory of Cory Alexander not being able to get it across the timeline faded that quickly?

Re: Cats sign McInnis...Hoo freaking Ray.

Why wouldn't we trade in one Tar Heel for another and go sign Ed Cota over from Europe. He could never shoot, but boy could he see the court and pass.

If we're conceding that our back-up point guard is going to be a bottom tier player (as the McInnis signing indicates), why not take a flyer on a young PG with upside?

Maybe Charlotte is planning on making their own reality TV series about the season and needed to spice up the show?
