Derek Anderson re-signed

http://www.charlotte.com/bobcats/story/301195.html
Is anyone even working in our front office?

I mean how pathetic can our offseason be.It's not like this team started out loaded with NBA talent. We dumped a good NBA player in BK and then we added absolutely nothing. We blew our capspace and a high lottery pick for Richardson. That makes zero sense if you don't intend to fill in the blanks afterwards.

Does anyone care to defend this front office or explain to me how this team expects to be improved this season? As far as I am concerned the Richardson deal was all just a sham intended to convince the fanbase they were a serious NBA franchise without ever intending to act like a serious NBA franchise.
Quote:
The Charlotte Bobcats plan to re-sign veteran Derek Anderson to fill out their roster on the eve of training camp.
Anderson, who played for the Bobcats most of last season, will serve as third-string point guard and play some shooting guard and small forward.

Re: Derek Anderson re-signed

I don't see why you are so down on the team. I agree with the Knight situation was handled poorly but we did manage to resign Wallace and pick up a goto scorer, what I would consider a successful offseason.

Re: Derek Anderson re-signed

I can agree to a certain extent but I don't think it's as bad as you think it is. Yes, we don't have any front court depth and that's what's going to end up costing us this year. Yes, the BK situation was handled horribly and we would probably be close to a lock for the playoffs if he was still here.

But we kept our core and got a year older on a team that's been improving every year. I don't think we're going to be making the playoffs this year but the east has become more competitive this year then last and I would actually prefer adding another lottery pick then just having a first round exit.

We still need to add a big man and it looks like were aren't going to now but there really just wasn't any that were worth it and were going to get DA back to mentor our young players like he did last year.

If J-Rich ends up staying injury prone then yes it was a horrible deal and the Warriors got a huge steal but if he's able to get healthy and go back to old form then that Felton-J-Rich-Gerald fastbreak is going to be an amazing thing to watch

What's the point when you come back with "Complete nonsense"?

Around the NBA Offseason Thread

I gave you three posts full of reasons why we had a great offseason, and the best you could come back with is:

May is useless

Anyone expecting their starters to play 35-40 minutes is smoking crack (even though our top 4 players average that).

Oh, and BK is the example of a "good" player? The dude had locker room issues. Why do you think we couldn't get anything for him for the last 2 years? There was at least 5 teams in dire need of a backup PG yet they wouldn't even talk to Knight.

I ask once again...yhy don't you spell out what we should have done?

Re: Derek Anderson re-signed

This team has the worst bench in the NBA.It's that simple. You get past Matt Carroll and we barely have a player on the bench that could make the roster of a decent NBA team.Remember that in order to make a roster you have to pass a physical.Sean May can not pass a physical. He's played 55 out of a possible 164 games and the team doctors are currently trying to avoid microfracture surgery. He's spent the entire offseason on crutches for that very reason.

We do not have a functional backup point guard. We probably don't have a backup point guard that could make a roster in the ACB or La Lega.May is the only true Power Forward on the entire roster and noone here is silly enough to expect anything out of him.Brezec might come back, but he was horrible last year and Morrison was arguably the worst player in the league. Why in god's holy name would anyone expect this team to win 35 games? Our starting lineup has reasonable talent on it,but we're going to be forced to start Fabio which means that Gerald Wallace is going to be forced to play almost entirely at the power forward.Richardson is a scorer,he's hardly a go to scorer. If he's going to play the way he has recently then he's not really much better than Carroll since Matt can hit three pointers at a much higher rate.Someone show me some video of Richardson dunking that isn't more than two years old please.

Re: Derek Anderson re-signed

Orlando Magic:

Nelson/Arroyo
Bogans/Dooling/Redick
Turkoglu/Ariza
Lewis/Garrity
Howard/Foyle

Nelson/Arroyo < Felton/Touche'/DA

The Magic were trying to GIVE Arroyo away last season. Anderson, which ironically started this, was one of our most efficient Bobcats last season.

Diamonds in the Rough

Quote:
Derek Anderson was highly successful for Charlotte last season. Queen City Hoops recently reviewed last season's most successful Bobcats lineups. The Bobcats three best lineups all featured Derek Anderson. Clearly, Anderson played a large role in the Bobcats late-season success - why not bring him back and build on it? Anderson is affordable, and it's clear that despite his age (33) he can still play.
BTW, QCH agrees with your dislike of Touche', nor am I that high on him. I will however give our coach the benefit of the doubt as he's been in the gym with him all summer. He's a vet min player who can EASILY be replaced if push comes to shove.

Bogans/Dooling/Redick < Jason Richardson/Hammer/Derek Anderson

Turk/Ariza < Crash/Ammo/Dudley/Fabio

I shouldn't have to argue either of these. Crash by himself trumps all those guys. Ariza can be a "poor man's Gerald Wallace", but he's still fairly raw. Dudley could probably dominate him with his inside game.

Lewis/Garrity > Fabio/Dudley/Mek/Davidson

This is obviously the dropoff, but ONLY because of the starter (remember we're doing "worst bench in the NBA" here). I'd take Fabio/Dudley over Garrity ANY day.

Howard/Foyle = Mek/Primoz/Davidson/Hollins

Foyle has stone hands, but is a pretty good defender. Primoz has a great perimeter game but sucks at defense. Primoz has the edge in rebounds.

I intentionally left May out...so ANYTHING he gives in this scenario is a plus.

Looks to me like Orlando has a worse bench...yet most writers are picking them to be in the playoffs.

I'd also point to Hoopshype today...Iavoroni says he plans on running an 8 or 9 man rotation this year.

If needs be we can do another team later...but as "worst" was the metric it really shouldn't be needed.

Didn't you watch the playoffs?

39 mpg...48% FG...35.4% 3pt FG...6.7 REB...2 asts...1.3 stls...19 pts

Averaged right at or above what he averaged in the 05/06 season before the injury. Coming back he was hesitant about slashing and such because of the knee but as he got time on the court he starting getting back into form.

Jason Richardson Splits

Look at the breakdown by month near the bottom of the page. Comparing December to March (April was playoffs and already covered):

25.8 mpg vs. 35.1 mpg
29% FG/29% 3 pt vs. 42% FG/39% 3pt
3.1 rebs vs. 4.9 rebs
1.8 assts vs. 4.5 assts
8.8 ppg vs. 17.6 ppg

He's getting right back to form; indeed, he's back on improving his game every year just like he has before the injury.

and if any of you watched the warriors playoff appearence last year you would see that Richardson was definitly getting his stuff back.

Felton/J-Rich/Wallace/Okafor

That's pretty sweet.

What happened to Morrison? Can you just magically lose your shooting touch for a whole season?

not really. but you can lack the athleticism and skill to get off your shot and create space from your defender.
