Bernie's leaving the organization

Quote:
Bernie Bickerstaff, the original architect of the Charlotte Bobcats' basketball operation, is leaving the franchise, The Charlotte Observer has learned.

Bickerstaff served the team's first three seasons as both coach and general manager/president of basketball operations. After the 2006-07 season, he stepped down from both jobs, taking the title of executive vice president. In that role, Bickerstaff scouted extensively in preparation for the 2008 draft and acted as an advisor to managing partner Michael Jordan.

Bickerstaff could not be reached for comment Thursday, but a source with extensive knowledge of the situation confirmed that Bickerstaff is leaving. It was unclear whether he'll work for the team through next month's draft.

Wonder why, guess he just wanted out. I didn't like him as a coach but we probably would have been in the playoffs this year had he stayed on instead of the joke of a coach we had this year. Best of luck to him he did a good job setting us up

Re: Bernie's leaving the organization

Sam Vincent gave me a whole new appreciation for Bernie...Of course Bernie mostly just didn't screw things up beyond recognition.I believe that Bernie is going after an open GM job. He's probably got a shot to replace Billy Knight in ATL.

This tool Vecsey is a day late with this story, but he's telling it different.I'd bet he's just making it up.For Bernie's sake I hope they did fire him.No reason he shouldn't take a million dollars from Bob for doing nothing. He can go get another job and spend that idiot's money too for all I care.

May 9, 2008 -- Bobcats executive Bernie Bickerstaff, rendered extraneous by Larry Brown's hiring as coach, was terminated yesterday, The Post has learned. He has one guaranteed year at $1 million left on his contract. A head coach and GM for several NBA teams, including the Bobcats, has been mentioned by many as a genuine contender for the KnicksNew York Knicks ' GM job and as a sideline mentor for Mark Jackson should he become Isiah Thomas' successor.
