Follow-up questions:

1. Could the Bobcats pick up the rights to a pick in the 2004 draft if it is left unprotected, or are draft picks not part of the equation?

2. Could the Bobcats pick the draft rights to a player not yet in the NBA that has been drafted, like Sofoklis Schortsianitis?

I know that neither are likely, but I was just curious...

1. Draft picks are not part of the equation, unless the Bobcats actually trade for one like any other team.

2. The only scenario in which they could do this would be if they were to possibly trade for the players rights (A Second-Round Draft Pick perhaps?), with the normal NBA rules applying. However, a team like the Clippers might say "Take Chris Kaman in the expansion draft and we will trade you Sofoklis for a future second-round pick." That is the only possible scenario in which this could happen.

I believe it is right after the end of the finals (the next day maybe), because I doubt it would be a good idea to have a guy playing for a team who just basically said "We don't want you".
