Has Bickerstaff been lying?
Here is a recent interview that was taken shortly after the draft lottery.
Quote:
Q: The Bobcats have been linked to Shaun Livingston. Does that have any credence?
Bickerstaff: Well, we haven’t really committed to any players. We are bringing players in and we will evaluate them as we go along. We really haven’t fallen in love with anyone.

I think the whole, we won't take a HS'er is a bluff. They have been scouting Shaun for a while, and he didn't say anything about not picking a HS player because there not ready.

Kevin Garnett: “Okafor is having a great year. He’s strong, a very good rebounder and active around the basket. He’s playing like an animal right now.”
Dirk Nowitzki: “He is playing phenomenal and he comes to play every night. He is going to be a dominant player is this league.”

I think they will pick the best player (and a player with great potential - they have time to wait and develope) available at #4.

I've heard in some stories that some people believe it is just a smokescreen, like many teams do during draft time. I'm not sure what the point is when you're picking fourth in a draft that looks to have a pretty set top three, but I'm sure there's something behind it.

I think if Deng or Howard slip by picks 2 and 3, Bobcats take one of them (mainly because Deng already has a decent fanbase in NC). I feel they should go after Livingston whether or not either slip. From the tape I've seen of Livingston (not very much) his decision making is seems uncanny for a HSer. He's such a unique talent, while Howard and Deng definately could be great, I would be more confident in the Bobcats growing as a franchise with Livingston. He might turn into a project, but so might Howard or any other HSer. Howard reminds me too much of Kwame (outstanding talent, not sure how he'll take the jump--verditc is still out on Kwame).
If Bickerstaff is telling the truth, he'd be making a mistake. Deng might be the best pick from a merchandise standpoint, but college success leading to revenue is just temporary, unless the player successfully transfers his game to the NBA. Livingston should be the guy they pick.

Remember the reason why I thought it was a bluff in the first place. The team is not going to win for years, so they might as well develop a superstar, thus I feel Howard, Deng, Biedrins or Livingston is the pick.
