Chicago's Next Coach? Who do you want to see?
Bzdelik? To me, he's just Skiles again, except maybe not quite as high a basketball IQ. If the management forces a good coach out of town, they owe the players and the fans someone BETTER.
PJax? Is it time for him yet, or do we need some of the league's top 5 players first?
How about P.J. Carlesimo? He's somewhat underrated, after the Sprewell incident, but the guy's been really winning with Pop in San Antonio. He might be ready to step up to a big job. His basketball mind is very decent, from what I remember of his broadcasting.
Donny Nelson? He'd inject some excitement into our offense, at least, and he works extremely hard. Could we get him from Dallas? http://www.nba.com/coachfile/donn_ne....html?nav=page
Quote:
One of the most respected minds in the NBA, Donn Nelson was hired as a Mavericks assistant coach on Jan. 2, 1998 and holds the dual role of director of player personnel. He is involved in every aspect of Mavericks basketball operations. Nelson, who brings 16 yearsof NBA experience to the Mavericks bench, came to Dallas after three seasons as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns.
"He's one of the hardest working coaches I've been around," said Michael Finley, who spent his first season with the Suns. "In Phoenix he was one of the first coaches on the floor at practice working with me, and one of the last coaches to leave. He's helped bring my game to the next level."
|
And what about Musselman? They said his main problem was fighting with management in G.S., so after this Skiles business he might not want to be here, but he's certainly talented.
Rudy T, anyone? That guy is the disputably the best for our team, but he has health problems is not likely to make another comeback soon.
Jim O'Brien? He didn't do THAT bad a job in Philly, you know, and he was more than okay in Boston. He's a basketball mind, but he's not good with substitutions.
Any other names out there?

Saunders and Silas are both guys who I've always liked. Only thing is, Saunders is said to be demanding an ever more overpriced contract than Skiles and I'm not sure if he would be worth it. And Silas had an ugly end to his reign in Cleveland, so some may be turned off.

I would hate to see Silas here.

He had a very solid tenure with the Hornets, and coached through tons of adversity. I'm not sure why it didn't work out with the Cavs, but he's battle tested.
Another possibility is none other than Nate McMillan...I bet he's seeking a big payday, but you never know. It sounds like he shares a similar philosophy with Pax.

Latest word is that Paxson is in discussions with a Chicago Native in talks that would end in the youngest coach in NBA history being signed.

Hire Larry Brown? Phil Jackson? Flip Saunders? Nate McMillan? There are plenty of candidates, and talented coaches in waiting, like the Suns' Marc Iavaroni, who played with Paxson. I'd trust Paxson to find someone good. He found Skiles when no one else wanted him.
|
Edit: The again, Iavaroni wouldn't be the youngest coach ever. He's like 48 years old.
