Sam Smith proposes one of his last trades while a tribune writer - It's Hinrich for..

Gilbert Arenas. At least that's the idea:

Quote:
My guess is the Bulls look to make their major change at point guard, and Hinrich could be their most valuable asset.

The Washington Wizards say they want Gilbert Arenas back, but I can't believe it, given the terrific season they've had by playing more a defense-oriented style without him. And with Arenas, coming off knee surgery, saying he'll opt out and become a free agent, he's the guy to target.

He'll cost a lot, a maximum deal, but you've got to take a shot if you're the Bulls. You have to make it attractive for Washington because Arenas is one of the franchise's most popular players ever.

The Wizards would need a guard who plays defense to team with Antonio Daniels, and that would be Hinrich. They'd want some athletic front-court help, so perhaps Tyrus Thomas. I'd part with Gooden if they wanted him, or Noah.

I doubt they'd be interested in Ben Gordon, though you could look for a deal elsewhere with him. Maybe throw in that draft pick or exchange it for Washington's—teams do pick for one another.

Arenas can negotiate after July 1. And with the value of the Bulls' players substantially lower after this season, they are in poor position to drive a hard bargain to get a potential star.

The Wizards would bring back All-Stars Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, and the improving DeShawn Stevenson.

Assuming their young big men continue developing, they would have the stars and the depth to make a real run instead of this season's wonderful overachieving.

Arenas might be an undersized shooting guard, but he's truly a star, with an outsized personality that would flourish in a big market.
There's a lot more to the article, including a look back at how things went wrong this year. It can be found here.

Re: Sam Smith proposes one of his last trades while a tribune writer - It's Hinrich f

Well, we remember all too well Gilbert Arenas' ability to hit a clutch shot (see: knocking us out of the playoffs)... I love Hinrich's defense but Smith might be right that Arenas' is the only superstar-type guy/go to scorer we'd be able to swing a deal for... and I think we have a good sense that Kirk's ceiling is well below that.

It does bother me that Washington has played so well without him, but Eddie Jordan is one of the most underrated coaches in the business.

It all depends on the final deal of course, but I like Agent Zero as a personality and would think he'd be a lot of fun to have around.

Edit to add: I'd match up Arenas and Sefolosha against nearly any backcourt in the league... I think they'd compliment each other very well.

Re: Sam Smith proposes one of his last trades while a tribune writer - It's Hinrich f

I've been clamoring for this one all year.

Hinrich, TT and the draft pick if needed for Arenas.

Reunite Arenas and Hughes, the duo that smoked the "right way" Hinrich/Duhon pair a few years back. Give the Bulls a true star. I’d also like to retain Gordon if he’d be willing to take on the 6th man role.

Yes, there is the injury risk. If there were not an injury risk, he would not be available.

Some people see star potential in Thabo. I think those people are wrong, although he can be a solid NBA player, IMO.

Arenas / Gordon / Thabo
Hughes / Gordon / Thabo
Deng / Nocioni
Gooden / Nocioni
Noah / Gray

I don't necessarily think he'll be a star, but I'd much rather have him than Larry Hughes going forward... I think he's a game changer defensively and rebounds as well as any 2 guard in the league.

I would love to have Gilbert Arenas on the Bulls, but comming off a Knee injury I dont know if I feel comfortable not only trading away a good portion of your team (even though its crappy) and signing Arenas to a MAX contract which could cripple us for years if he doesnt recover well from his injury.

Thabo is not a bad player at all, his biggest problem is that he doesnt have a very consistant jump shot and at times Thabo seems to look lost on the court. Hes got great size and a solid skills set to build on I will argue that Thabo has more potential than Thomas and Noah, in the long run I dont think Thabo will be a star but he will be someone who will allways have a job in the NBA because of his lenght and defensive skills.

Re: Sam Smith proposes one of his last trades while a tribune writer - It's Hinrich f

I would not be opposed to that deal exactly.

Arenas is the type of player that we need. A star that draws attention from opposing defenses and the refs. Hughes would probably benefit from playing with his former running mate. Deng hopefully gets healthy and re-gains his midrange J. I'd be fine if Gooden puts up 32-13 one night out of five and then 10-10 the rest of the time. Noah would only get better as his role becomes more defined and he learns some tricks of the NBA game. Plus, a bench with Gordon, Thabo, Nocioni, and Gray is pretty damn good.

famous last words.... this post/quote will be nowhere to be found AFTER the "bulls right-way, losing GM overpaid for an injury risk player and who stupidly gave said player a max deal when no one else would've", when/if he flops for the bulls.

remember, you heard it here first....the king of 20-20 hindsight has weighed in.....from your post to john paxson's internet connection.....

Re: Sam Smith proposes one of his last trades while a tribune writer - It's Hinrich f

Yup, its a risk.

Or we could just stand pat with Hinrich and the rest of Paxson's losing crap. Man, I still can't believe people thought this Paxson team would contend for a title. So misguided. We're going to "build with Kirk." LOL. Man, that's a real headscratcher.

Trading an overrated, overpaid player like Hinirch along with TT and the pick (top 3 protected) for a top NBA player like Arenas would be a step in the right direction.

If Hughes does not pick up his play, try as best you can to make a deal and go forward with Arenas/Thabo/Gordon. Given Hughes contract though, that would be a tall order.

No fears of a trade happening. Washington will take one look at the Aaron Gray, Jameson Curry, & Larry Hughes offer and hang up the phone.

If you still a Paxson zealot (which appears to be the case), then yes.

Keep supporting him though. Your passionate defense of a loser like Paxson and his highly paid favorite son Kirk Hinrich is curious yet entertaining.
