KC looks at want went on with D'Antoni, and adds this tidbit:

Now the Bulls will move on to the next round of interviews, certain to include Johnson this week. Paxson has revealed his desire to connect personally with his hire, though. And despite certain shared philosophical beliefs, it's hard picturing Johnson and Paxson hitting it off.
Sources said Casey interviewed along with Rick Carlisle because the latter talked about making the former Timberwolves coach his lead assistant should Carlisle land the job. That same scenario could play out in Dallas, which just hired Carlisle, should Casey not land the Bulls job.
There's some other good stuff in here:

Paxson made clear with a statement he released Saturday, shortly after getting spurned by Mike D'Antoni, that the new Knicks coach had wowed him. D'Antoni's charisma and offensive ideas had convinced Paxson to take a 180-degree turn and open his youthful roster to a style of play that isn't Paxson's norm.
Yes, Paxson had asked D'Antoni to hire a veteran defensive-minded assistant. But instead of stuffing current Bulls personnel into a box, Paxson wanted to hand D'Antoni the keys to the car and find the accelerator.
National reports are focusing on Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf's deliberate business manner and slow-moving decision-making process as a factor in D'Antoni's decision. And Warren LeGarie, D'Antoni's agent, told the Tribune that Bulls ownership seemed hesitant to commit to a long-term deal.
Without divulging money, team sources insist the Bulls were willing to match the four-year length of the Knicks' offer. Paxson said in his statement the Bulls had not been given the chance to even present a formal offer.
Ownership was willing to fork out cash.
Paxson was willing to give the coach a lot of say, he really just wanted a good Defensive coach as an assistant. A good idea and not too much to ask.
Also Paxson was willing to go away from a style he'd feel more comfortable with.
Sounds like there's nothing to bash Pax about there. I think, as I have suspected all along, that Reinsdorff's cheapness is more of the problem than Pax.
