What if we had the Success of last year?

I was thinking of this. Lets say this exact draft field was last year and the Bulls ended up with the number 1 pick from the Knicks pick we had. Were coming off a promising season where we sweep away the Heat. Were young and still show promise in the Pistons series. Hinrich looks to be one of the 10 best PGs in the league. Gordon and Deng are young possibly budding stars. There was talk of both of them making the All Star and then they went out and had a great second half plus playoffs. The talk is the Bulls are one post scorer from being legit NBA finals contenders.

Is there any chance they would take Rose over Beasley had this draft been a year earlier? I have to think Beasley would definitely be the pick.

The team has a terrible year. Hinrich takes 2 steps back and Deng/Gordon both seemed to take a step back or at least definitely not improve. Now Derrick Rose is the guy.

I am all for drafting Rose. Im a hugee Rose fan. But, I wonder and go back and forth on this. If we can get the Deng, Gordon, Hinrich core back to their 07 level or even take steps forward and improve on that. Then add a big scorer (even if he isnt a Center) like Beasley to the mix. Is that team a title contender?

I was never crazy about Hinrich - he always made me nervous on the offensive end of the floor. Great defender, hard worker...but I'd hold my breath every time I saw him dominating the ball, or throwing up one of his crazy off-balance shots. I always wanted to like the guy, but I just never felt confident in his PG skills.
