You need to change your argument. Everyone knows that this statement is false, which of course discredits the entire point you're trying to make. To say that someone is "mediocre" or "average" means that half of the players in the NBA at their position out-produce them. Half of small forwards do not out-produce Deng. Move on to something better.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
I added a few laughers onto that list, like Q Rich for example, just to illustrate my point. Overpaying for Deng most definitely equals a subtraction at another position in the future due to a cheap owner not paying to keep them all. It's not just a 1 to 1 comparison, look at the big picture.
Brandon Roy, although a SG, is listed on NBA.com as a guard/forward. So laugh all you want. He has the size and skillset to play SF. There really isn't much differentiating in between a SG and SF, as most of them play a little of each anyway. Hell, if we'd actually traded for Kobe last year, moving Deng in the process and keeping Hinrich and Gordon, he'd have been the starting SF I'd think, at least when on the court with those 2 anyway. It's all about how they fit, not where they've played thus far in their careers.

The point, I think, is that you didn't really answer the question of naming 15 SFs you'd rather have. Even if you use the qualifier of guys who can play SF, the one about Deng making the max is silly because he won't. I think people will be less inclined to dismiss your thoughts if you supply that list. Assume Deng is being paid market value, and that you're just comparing the players.

What is this topic about? This thread? It's about Golden State potentially offering way too much to "steal" Deng away from us, thus forcing us to resign him for way too much. That is what is supposed to be in debate here I thought. Of course I don't want all of those guys over Deng, not even close. But I would take them all over him at reasonable prices, vs Deng at max. Like I said, the big picture, not just a 1 on 1 comparison. If just listing off SFs, that on a talent basis OR guys I think will be better, I might come close to 15, but doubtful. For example, James Posey is most certainly a lot better player, but I despise him as much as I do Kobe Bryant, so that eliminates 2 guys off the list right there, as they both could play SF for us, and would if Deng left and were replaced by them.

His response tells me otherwise. That's a max Deng being considered, instead of just talent level.

Fair enough. I'm not sure most would prefer Posey over Deng (Posey as a roleplayer, yes, but not as a starting SF), but you're certainly entitled to your own opinion.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
One guy in this topic is severely undervaluing Deng; the rest of us know he's wrong.
How bout we get back on track with the topic and start thinking about scenarios where Golden State screws us over. And talk about how likely they are.

I don't like his list, and I laughed at it also. but that was what this thread is about no?
Actually, if Deng is needed the max I would probably prefer all those players on his list also.
Deng is simply not worth the Max, or anywhere close to it.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
Deng isn't worth the max, and he's not going to get it, so let's put that issue to bed.
However, what if GS offers him $12 million/season? Then you're getting into a pickle.

Don't think the Warriors will be able to afford him if their offer to Brand is taken
