Golden State could be the death of us
They now have vast resources to spend
They could offer one of our guys 15 per and try to force our hand
They have needs at small guard and SF, too.
Lets hope they get Gilbert, or that they want Josh/AI2 more than our guys.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
That said,Gordon duplicates Ellis, who they at this point have to bring back (to save face). And I think we'd match anything for Deng, but the thought of a near max for Deng sucks.

Then we'll match whatever offer they throw at us.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
Nah, why would they want any of our guys when they have theirs to worry about.
You can argue about Deng case but he is not a maximum - and unless they offered Max, Chicago would match anything.
Gordon is redundon (spell?). I think they will be fine. They should just save up for next summer.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
We'd better not match a big offer to Deng. If they give him a ridiculous offer, let him go. Not worth overpaying for. If that happens, trade Hinrich for Joe Alexander, or try to get Josh Smith in a S&T....he'd actually be worth the money at least.

As much as you hate Deng and as much as you love Alexander and Smith, it's just not happening.

I don't hate Deng. I just don't love him, or think he's all that great, like the rest of you do. I think he's very average and over-rated. It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all to see him go, assuming we get something decent to replace him that at least has some balls and athleticism.

Averaging 17 points a game, 6 rebounds, a steal, 0.5 blocks, on 48% shooting at 23 years old and having that considered an off year isn't bad at all. Letting him walk for nothing would be absolutely ridiculous.

Not nearly as ridiculous as giving an average player a max contract. That's just plain old asinine. It'd be different if we had an owner that wasn't constantly doing salary dumps, but signing him to a max deal would mean we'd have to dump more guys, and/or let others we should resign walk. Hopefully he'll redeem himself this year, but after last year he isn't worth nearly that much to me.

I don't think he's worth max contract, but there is no way we let him walk for nothing. I don't think that 17 and 6 at 23 years old is average. I think it's pretty good.

Re: Golden State could be the death of us
I am definitely not saying I want him to walk for nothing. I just prefer it to overpaying for him, which will mean a bunch of salary dumping and letting others walk in the next few years as a result. We ALL know how Reinsdorff is. If that was to happen, and Reinsdorff holds true to form, in a few years when Noah has been exposed as a role player, he'll be traded for a salary dump just like Tyson was, and we'll again be with no C. (Just using that as a possible example....a domino effect of drastically overpaying Deng)

Like I've said before, I love this guy. Hustle, athleticism, size, etc.. Perfect for the uptempo style Vinny wants to run.
I think he's definitely worth a look, if.. and that's a big if, he was available.

Im sure GP is glad to have all the stats and be considered a top 10 all time guard, but what does that mean to him without a ring?
here's an example:
You have a gorgeous girl that gives you all the oral sex and foreplay you want, but no actual sexual intercourse. Shoot, of course you get the glamour of being with a top notch girl, but you don't quite feel complete and satisfied. There's no shame "sealing the deal" with another girl who isn't as pretty, but heck.. at least you got to tap that booty.

You call him average. Name 15 SFs you'd rather have then Deng.
