Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
In the grand scheme of things I dont think JJ's contract will be a determining factor in getting a top tier FA or not, getting rid of John Salmons is MUCH more important for cap security. Getting rid of 2 high draft picks (one only half a season in his career) in the same trade for a player who will not even play next season and has been injury prone for a while, does not really look good.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
My understanding is that the Bulls are dissappointed in Johnson's conditioning and don't really see him developing. Obviously they would prefer to move Salmons/Hinrich with JJ or Tyrus as sweeetner but there haven't been any deals out there that make sense so they are looking in other directions. Tyrus/JJ for Haywood could clear just enough cap to do the max fa thing (all depends on where the cap figure lands at) while letting us keep Hinrich and Salmons for the rest of the season. We add the best player in the deal and he is an expiring contract. Haywood has played almost as well as Noah this season! Thats pretty impressive.
Anyone notice we would be trading Johnson for Wood?

Conditioning is something that can be worked on, just look at Joakim Noah! It took Noah a couple of season's and countless bust talks before he finaly took basketball serious and got in shape and hes not even as talented as James Johnson!
Patience and hard work will pay off with James Johnson.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
I just see no need to deal two trade chips to improve this season when the Bulls will be lucky to win two games in the playoffs. Unless it's become clear that these two players have absolutely no value to other teams, it's foolish not to use them in Salmons and/or Hinrich deals.

Who knows? It clicks for some guys, and doesn't click for others (See: Curry, Eddy; See also: Thomas, Tyrus). The best that can be said is it's too early to know one way or the other on JJ. That might be enough of a reason to hold on to him, if only b/c his deal is small enough that it might not give us a lot of offseason flexibility if we shed it.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
IMO, I would prefer to keep JJ. Several teams are asking about Haywood. I believe one of them can come up with a better offer.
JJ is oozing with talent. It's easy to see. He just needs to put it together. Another summer league, and a summer of working on his game, hopefully will show us some results.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
I don't know the Bulls don't play him very much. We have seen some sparkling moments out of him but he rarely sees the floor, even when we are short handed or could use his size he often gets a DNP. I think the Bulls are a lot closer to it and if they really do believe his conditioning won't ever be where it needs to be then it makes giving him away a lot easier. My only concern is that we will need some young players on cheap rookie deals to go along with whomever we hope to get in FA. We will have a lot of roster spots to fill and not a lot of cash to fill them with so jettisoning rookies is only a good idea if we are pretty sure they can't help us at all.
