JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
JOHN is a registered poster here. He posted this on the realgm bulls board:

Latest info I got is that Brendan Haywood has been informed that he could be going to Chicago for Tyrus Thomas and James Johnson. This comes from a player my guy represents here in Europe and is close to Brendan.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
Brendan Haywood's a solid center. It'd be a shame to ship out Johnson so soon, but if this is part of some bigger plan then I'd have no qualms with it.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
NO. Haywood is nice but common you cant give up on James Johnson this early, especially with such low trade value. Giving up on Johnson for half a season for Haywood may make sense financially but I dont want to give up on him so early, I would like to see what a real head coach can do with Johnson.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
Yeah, I don't think we necessarily need to get rid of Thomas, as we'll likely just choose not to resign him... this deal would mean more money back for us to use this summer in Haywood's expiring, but as others have mentioned I'm not thrilled about giving up on James Johnson so soon.
On the other hand.... Johnson hasn't really shown much... I'd say the chances of him being a difference maker in this league are pretty slim otherwise he'd have shown us at least something. Haywood is a big body and would help us this year.
I'm a really big Tyrus Thomas fan so unless he's part of a larger package that brings back a superstar my heart says I'd almost prefer to keep him for the rest of the year... of course, if Vinnie isn't going to play him I guess we should just deal the guy.

It's a $6 million expiring deal. It makes us a bit better this year and provides some Noah insurance.
Giving up Tyrus doesn't really matter one way or the other. You don't have to move him because you can renounce him. So just giving up James Johnson's rookie deal to free up a teenie bit of cap space? Yikes. JJ has sucked so far, but that would be giving up on him crazy fast.

Either Paxson is an idiot or the realgm poster is faking their source. Thomas and Johnson are both potential sweeteners in an effort to dump Hinrich and Salmons' salaries for this summer, and it makes no sense to trade them together for somebody who won't be in Chicago next year or could be had in free agency anyway. It's possible Paxson is just stupid, but I have to question this "info" because it makes no sense for the Bulls.

Yeah it makes no sense, the Bulls are actively trying to get rid of Hinrich and Salmons so that alone tells me that they are willing to not make the playoff's this year, I highly doubt they are going to give up on JJ for half a season of Brendan Haywood.
Re: JOHN: Bulls targetting Brendan Haywood for Tyrus/Johnson?
Add in a 2012 protected #1 and I'm game, otherwise I don't see the point other than resolving the locker room tension and solving our short term problem at center. JJ is currently overpriced, and maybe the extra 1.5 million will come in handy soon, I guess. But in the current money-crazed environment, a #1 you don't have to pay yet, which is after the new CBA, and after Washington blows itself up and potentially isn't very good, should be worth more as a trade-sweetener than JJ is.
I don't think Tyrus's value is what it once was, so I'm not sure why Washington would do it unless they love Tyrus and are about to trade Jamison. But, if the JJ money is meaningful at all in what Paxson is trying to put together and Tyrus needs to move on, I would be on board. Either way, it would seem like a fairly sideways move that I hope would be part of a bigger picture.

^^^this....I'm pretty certain we can just waive the rights to Thomas come June. He's an expiring contract if we want him to be.
