Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

just for the heck of it?

Quote:
Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was in Alabama on Tuesday consulting Dr. James Andrews as he continues to rehabilitate his surgically repaired knee, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The rehabilitation is going well and Rose made the trip just to have the renowned surgeon, who's worked on many athletes, take a look, according to a source.

Re: Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

A second opinion never hurts, particularly if the first one is the Bulls medical staff.

Re: Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

Hysteria has broke out over this at Real GM. I didn't think anything of it until I started reading the comments. Now I'm scared. Is our Rose going to be okay?

Re: Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

I see this as a good sign for him. No one is in a better position to see how a post-op player is progressing and to give further rehab advice than James Andrews. No reason to think it's anything dire, yet.

Mike Wilbon on ESPN 1000 Chicago now, saying he is hearing from people in the know, that Rose's recovery process is not going well. He said no need to sound the alarms, as every recovery has ups and downs, but this visit was nit a good sign.

Oh boy...

Re: Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

Again, no need to panic, but word could be better. All rehabs have their ups and downs.... When it comes to knee injuries, when a player comes back, the biggest hurdle is confidence. That's why they say the 2nd yr back is the year where a player comes back 100%. If this set back, or bad news means DRose will be back a few months later then expected, who cares...next year is a wash anyways.

Re: Derrick goes to see Dr Andrews

KC has some news that should make you all feel better:

Quote:
Any speculation that the visit to Andrews is a sign of dissatisfaction with the rehabilitation process or a setback is merely that. In fact, Cole flat out said that several experts would be used during rehabilitation at the May 15 news conference regarding the surgery.

"He’s very fortunate he’s going to have eyes watching over him pretty much all the time with many different people who are intelligent in this area," Cole said that day. "None of this will be on his own. It will be very high level people working with him from all over."

Furthermore, several people familiar with this rehabilitation process in general and Rose's case in particular said changing scenery often can be beneficial. It eases the monotony and drudgery involved in the most basic of tasks. Bulls athletic trainer Fred Tedeschi said at the same May 15 news conference that Rose also might rehabilitate in his preferred offseason location of Santa Monica, Calif., at times.

By all accounts, Rose's rehabilitation is going well.
