Who Would You Rather Keep

Knowing how Uncle Jerry operates, I think it's pretty safe to assume that we will keep one of Taj or Omer.

Assuming Taj makes something in the neighborhood of what Houston is going to offer Asik ($8-9M) and you can only keep one, who would you keep?

I feel like the decision on whether or not to match Asik's contract is answered by this question.

Re: Who Would You Rather Keep

if i had to choose out the 2

asik,

there are very few impactful true centers in the league and every team thats serious about advancing in the playoffs need a true bigger center because at time matchups dictate that you do.

you can easily go big and play noah and asik together if a big center is giving you alot of trouble and there still are a few of them roaming the league on the better teams (howard, gasol , bynum, hibbert)

gibson while being the more complete player is more easily replaceable one.

Re: Who Would You Rather Keep

Gibson. He provides much of the same defensive abilities Omer does, but he can play on both ends of the court. It's close, though, given that Omer is a center and Taj is not. Still, if Miami is the big threat out there, I think Taj is a good defensive option for that matchup.

Re: Who Would You Rather Keep

Omer is a year younger and gigantic... Taj Gibson is the better basketball player. I don't know, it seems easy to say Gibson just based on his ability... we've seen that he can be a starting quality PF in this league (though not a star). That being said Grinch raises a good point... Asik plays a certain role that is hard to fill in the NBA - he's a rim protector. Gibson is a good shotblocker, don't get me wrong, but Asik has the ability to clog the lane with his size and does an excellent job staying straight and up and down and either getting the block or altering the opponents shot. He's stiff and goofy looking... but he honestly reminds me of a young Tyson Chandler to an extent defensively.... I don't think he quite has that upside, but still, he's got some valuable.

I guess I'll say Gibson, but I think Asik could prove me wrong.
