Bulls Looking at Kenyon Martin?

Midday Stampede: Bulls Looking at Kenyon Martin
Quote:
The 12-year-veteran would add toughness, defense and frontcourt depth

After the signing of veteran guard Nate Robinson, the Chicago Bulls have been rumored to be looking to add another veteran free-agent for the upcoming season.

One of the names that have surfaced is Tracy McGrady who the team has some familiarity with after working him out prior to the 2010-2011 season. But another name that has popped up of late is power forward Kenyon Martin.

Re: Bulls Looking at Kenyon Martin?

Kenyon played pretty well last year, at least when you consider that he's going to be making the minimum or something in that area. His free throw shooting was horrible, but he played well on defense.

Re: Bulls Looking at Kenyon Martin?

I'm assuming he is the backup plan to us trading Rip and not signing McGrady. We still have about $1.9M to spend of the MLE and I bet it is a one year deal for either TMac or KMart.

Who's your starting 2 if you sign KMart though?

I don't think RIP will be traded anytime soon...

All these signings are mins that mean nothing other than we need to field a bench. Full year off to get things together, get healthy, and clear cap

Re: Bulls Looking at Kenyon Martin?

He was money as a jumpshooter last season and he's good for some hustle, definitely worth the minimum.

Do we really? My understanding is we're up against the umbrella, hence the failure to sign Teague so far.

I think we are trying to work out a 100/120/120/120 deal with Teague to give us an extra ~$200k to play with. I haven't studied the numbers in depth, but it's possible that $200k allows us to get one more vet min contract. I also believe the new CBA allows players signed to the vet min contracts to only count 50% towards the cap, so vets would be cheaper than unproven rookies in that regard.

It also sounds like Kirk was signed to $4.0 million, not $3.0 million as was first reported, so we don't really have any MLE left unless we want to give someone like Malcolm Thomas more than a minimum contract to entice him to sign with us.

It would definitely be a weakness, although I think the more likely scenario is that we keep Rip and only grab one of the two guys we are pursuing.

If KMart is that guy, Belinelli or Butler starts until Rose gets back and Kirk slides over to the SG (unless Belinelli or Butler prove themselves better:
Hinrich/Robinson/Teague
Belinelli/Butler/Hinrich
Deng/Butler/Radmanovic
Boozer/Gibson/KMart
Noah/Gibson/Mohammed

The more likely (I think) lineup:
Hinrich/Robinson/Teague
Hamilton/Belinelli/Butler
Deng/Butler/Radmanovic
Boozer/Gibson/Thomas
Noah/Gibson/Mohammed

Like I said, I think KMart is more of a contingency plan to missing on McGrady and Malcolm Thomas.
