Thibodeau and the Bulls Bench

Coach Thibodeau made a "statement" in the game vs the Bucks on November 26th, refusing to play his bench late in the game. The perception was that this was an attempt to send a message to the bench players that they needed to play better, or they might not play much at all. Since the Bulls lost that game, many wondered if the message was worth it.

In some ways, it seems it was. Since the loss to the Bucks on the 26th, the Bulls are 5 and 1, with the only loss coming against the Pacers, although it took a superhuman effort from Noah to beat the Pistons.

However, although the defensive effort from some of the bench players may have improved, their offensive game has not. Only Bellini has really improved, especially since the loss to the Pacers. Moving into a starting role, due to an injury to Hamilton, Bellini has averaged 42 minutes and 20 points per game. Robinson, Gibson and Butler have been much more ineffective on offense during those 3 games.

Re: Thibodeau and the Bulls Bench

Gibson has been ineffective all season, he'll eventually get over this funk once he stops feeling the pressure from the new contract. Hopefully that's sooner than later. With Deng playing 48 minutes a night and Belinelli shooting the ball well, Butler hasn't logged as many minutes(I think), which hurts Butler's offense, though it's not as if he was an offensive stud to begin with. Robinson will be fine. Our big concern should be the backup C as Thibs has no trust in Nazr and he will run Noah dead if he keeps playing him 43 minutes a night.
